ok so some of you know that I have lost cylinder one in a pretty major way. The block is absolutely destroyed. Head has been taken with it.

I have an option for a b18c bare block just now but if I can save my crank I'd like to. Does the 18c4 crank go into the 18c block or is that a non starter?

Thats isnt good news about the cylinder.
Go for a 16a block. They seem to last longer than these chocolate 18 ones!

Note that the b18 and b16b cranks won't fit in the 16a block.

Well I think you need custom length rods and **** but don't quote me on that....

B16 block is shorter than B18 so it won't work. Not sure what kind of girdle does B18C4 use but a Type R block has a proper girdle unlike B16 block which only has separate "bridges".

C4 is the same girdle and b16b and 18c.

Eagle crank... Opinions? I've swapped a set of driveshafts for an 18c block

From what I've read/been told by 4piston in the States is that b18 cranks are good for over 1000hp.
I also did alittle research on the eagle cranks back when mine was playin up, they are forged in China and then roughly finished in the states iirc.
Also the tolerances aren't as tight as oem and I believe You have to finish the journals yourself(don't quote me but I'm sure they aren't a drop in job)
Basically I'd stick with a Honda crank and save your money/time.

If DET was your issue then sleeves wouldn't have saved it for much longer anyway. I mean something would have give eventually, be it the piston or the cylinder wall....

Oem crank it is then. I know that detonation would of killed it anyway but I'm committed to doing this second build better than the first one. So oe crank hopefully mine is good. New pistons and possibly rods. Just had a text from aonghus re sleaving and he is saying America is the best place to get it done. This is going to be expensive!

I'm sure @Wazer had his old b20 sleeved. Worth finding out who done it

I meant use the whole motor...........

Worth checking out 4piston then, they are going to be expensive but they really know their stuff.
Can't blame you for wanting a better build this time round. Expensive like you say, your essentially starting from scratch!

What actually happened? All I remember was that you were having head gasket issues and now you are a piston down?

Engine cut out and wouldn't start.
Got it recovered and it's blown the cylinder wall on cyl 1.
From a hazy picture on Facebook and a quick google looks like It was detting on every cylinder, obvs he needs to find out why this has happened before he fires up the next build.
So it would seem like our headgasket symptoms where a hairline crack in the cylinder wall, letting the coolant in/exhaust gasses out and fooling us into thinking headgasket. Continued driving on it was obvs abit too much for it.
Made a right mess of number 1 lol

Think @jesse888 has hit the nail on the head. Ultimately there's been detonation in all cylinders. Head gasket symptoms where the wall of cylinder one starting to break down and then it's just let go completely.

The new block should be here this weekend. Hopefully crank is ok as it was in good shape. Will need a bare head as head internals are good but I'll probably go for new valves anyway.

Selling my house this week so limited in what I can do till that's sorted but thinking about getting an 18c4 complete engine to get it up and running short term and building a monster over the winter.

Decent plan bud, it's easy to loose faith in it after continued problems, I found having my c4 in was enough to get some fun out of it whilst I sorted myself out with the proper engine.
DET in every cylinder is abit of a worry though....

I know but there's a few things I can put it down to but it won't get me anywhere. Next build/engine... Straight to tuner so it's safe

Best way buddy, if there's a fault with anything Aonghus will find it.
