hi i have a problem with my civic the rev meter jumps randomly and does not stay steady at 1000 rmp what may be the problem?

is it just the gauge doing funny things or can you here the engine hunting up and down as well?

Your Throttle body needs little tweaks i had same problem!

OR

If u instoled 4 branch manifold, u probely forgot to conect stabilizer
it connects in middle of manifold beside DECAT PIPE this will stabilizes your motor air so ur engine will know how much air should go off and how much should go on

Your Rev meter should go down to 900rmp like anyother doch Vtec motors

the reason i know this because i got honda civic coupe 99 with B16a2

and don't listen them noobs they talk crap

Dizzy, Spark plugs, leads??? wtf since when spark plugs play role in engine revving!!!!

Hey pardie ... it was my experince that the ignitor went bad that is why the rpm needle was all over the place

your reply ... is just another possible option ( taht have never happened to me)

PS ... I work on Hondas where i live

First thing to check would be the distributor connector. One of the wires is the tacho signal to the ecu and your dash. The terminals somtimes get corroded slightly. Inspect them and use a pick-file to clean them, and also apply some electrical grease to protect the terminals. Also youll find that if somones had the dizzy off in the past and has pulled on the wires, this can cause a bad connection too.

checking the dizzy connector/connectors would be my first point of call as thats where your rpm signals coming from :nice:
