Hi all.
Need some advice, would help if the person giving the advice has experience rather than opinions.
Firstly I've searched and can't find much info on porting the inlet side of the head to the gasket especially on a B18.
My heads coming off for valve stem seal replacement and the rest of the procedure like head gasket possibly slight head skim etc.
Was wondering if it will benefit in the future from having the head ported on the inlet side up to the gasket allowing more air in to the engine. I was thinking about having it done for the future when/if I eventually get bigger cams (brian crowed stage 2) and a remap.
1. Will it effect anything in a negative way
2. Will I gain any performance or will I notice it more with a tune
I'd rather it not be noticeable until a retune ideally so it still drives great.
Thanks

I think you want the inlet rough and the exhaust smooth. Allows the air and fuel to mix better. Iirc

if you do decide to port your head you may as well go with someone who is a professional because even if it looks good doesn't mean it will benefit it. as said above having a smooth port is no good it wont make the swirls you want and the air/fuel wont mix in the best way. and if you don't want to notice any difference then why bother ? also slapping on bigger cams with nothing else done will do nothing if not harm your engine for big cams you need bottom end work as well as additional head work compression needs to be increased

Thanks for the responses.

I actually mean
This part not the internals
(not my picture but you get the idea)

I've been recommended by Will @rdt to go Brian crowed stage 2 but nothing bigger on a stock engine.

Have had a look on engine building web sites and have found some answers where they do open it up slightly without any massive head work or bitten end work in fact however I'm wondering if it's worth doing now while it's off for in the future when it goes back for tuning.

unless you know what you are at, porting a type r head you will do nothing but ruin it. The type r flows so well from standard, if you are not upping the compression the porting is not required.
