Ek9
Hello all,
Need to repaint my rear wing carrier on my EK9. The standard black is a almost chalk board black.
Was thinking of using satin black.

Anyone with any advice on what shade of black to use would be helpful. Also maybe show us what you've done with yours? Carbon wrap? Custom colour?

I used Motip matt black to paint mine a few years ago (spray can).
Color looked very similar to the original baseplate color.

I had the one on my old Civic resprayed. The body shop used a black base (didn't say which) and a semi gloss clear. It was darker and had more gloss then original but it looked great and blended with the rear glass better. I need to have the one on my EK9 redone, it's starting to wear thin too. I may just swap it with my other though as I still have it. If interested I can get pics this weekend for you.

Ah right that's sounds like a good idea, I like the fact it blends in with the glass, yeh some pictures would be great :D thanks

I'll be sure to get you some, probably not until Saturday though... it's usually dark by the time I get home from work (old Civic is wrecked and outside nowhere near a light).

Cheers that would be great!

I've been wanting to paint mine for awhile now.
Was worried a gloss wouldn't look right so haven't bothered.
Will watch this space!

Also interested in the outcome! I was thinking of gloss black with a matte clear coat... haven't got round to giving it a go yet though.

Pics as promised... although there wasn't as much glass left around the wing as I thought. It's gloomy out today, the second pic is with flash. I've included some older pics before the car was wrecked as well (and when I received my Mugen MF10s :))). None are that great but hopefully they will be enough to give everyone a good idea of the look.

Thanks for the pictures :D I think I'm going to do what you had done. It looks smart. I am tempted to see what a gloss finish would look like, am I brave enough to be the Guinea pig?

You're welcome.

I was/am tempted to do gloss as well. Very curious as to how it would look... I would think that it would blend with the glass best.

Well nearly there, wet flating the primer ready for paint. Going for gloss black  here we go!

First gloss coat done, BUT a bird flew over and shat in the paint :L just my luck. Rub down again then!

Second black coat

And today the final coat of black

Tomorrow clear coat!

Lacquered it today, picture taken 5 min after spraying. Will see what it looks like in the morning :D

Here it is built up, will fit tomorrow or Sunday!

Back on the car now :D what do you think? It blends in with the glass nicely.
Really happy with how it's turned out. Sorry about the lighting in the pictures. Didn't get her out as it was pissing with rain!

You know what, it looks better than I thought it would!
Something for mine when I can be arsed/not chasing brake leaks lol

That looks smart in gloss black. Always said I was going to do mine in CW but like you said, it blends in well with the rear screen.

After seeing that I'm gonna either get mine wrapped in gloss black or get it sprayed. Good job :nice:
