anyone got any thoughts on how much to skim my B16A head?

50euro most places, assuming your talking prices here and not how much to skim off it

im talking how much in thou to mill off the head lol

looking to up the compression a little without using one of them wank thin head gaskets

ill be using standard B16a cams but i have the option of using a set of EK9 cams

part of me wants to squeeze as much out of internally standard b16a without going for type R or aftermarket parts

If fitting type r cams you could skim it 15-20thou, that will bring you up around 11.0:1 CR.

ive read that skimming a B16A 0.035 will increase power by around 5-6 hp over the whole rev range

that was after some fettling of the cam timing

Nothing wrong with a Spoon or Mugen H/G once fitted right ..

Id use one of them before skimming a head to bump compression

20thou would be more than enough for a car thats not running big cams.

Spoon headgaskets are hit and miss IMO. Only gasket i've never had a issue with is genuine Honda.

I know where you are coming from but he needs to skim his head because he has a compression leak not caused by a broken head gasket but the head itself

The way I look at it, take it to a specialist and get the minimum amount taken off to allow the head to seal perfectly again. If you start trying to raise compression to make power, then pay for cams, valves, springs etc and at that stage you may aswell replace stem seals, valve guides, cam seals....the list goes on and you would be better spending your money on a type r motor instead

I paid £80 to have my head skimmed, pressure tested and de-choked then simply put it straight back onto the car and it is a very good going b16a. I'm keeping it like that for as long as it takes the abuse I give it on the track, if anything fails on the motor that isn't cost effective to fix then its time for a type r motor

@SPeK9 : Yeah sorry read it wrong , agree with what you said

@Vtec6000 : I dunno , I think the ones to fail are not actually at fault but rather the deck warpage is out of spec ( or some other issue ) , as any Spoon/Mugen I seen fitted to a decked and skimmed engine are reliable

Using the OEM would let you away with the deck being out of spec , while the thin one wont ... Thats my thinking

Hi, sorry for bumping an old thread.

Is this the max on a b18cR head ?
I'm having my head gasket done again and was thinking 14thou
It had 6thou removed before on the previous removal

20 is the max when running type r cams... I was told if you go with aftermarket cams you can't go 20..
