Hey all

can i just tell you a short version of some events that happend to me... and maybe pick you brains...

phoned up my local honda on monday morning, booked in on wednesday for a cam belt and valve clearence check...

drove to the honda garage for 1st thing wednesday morning, and was greeted with "sorry we couldn't get you cam belt" "the ek9 has a special belt"
1, nice of them to call me and let me know.. 2, does the ek9 have a "special" belt or are the b series belts all the same?

anyway... i asked them are you sure you have tried everywhere.. they said yes... so i asked for the next local honda dealers number.. i gave them a call and within 5mins i had them holding back the correct belt, I drove there myself and picked up the belt, and let me local honda work on the car,

went back later that day, and they told me.. "did you notice your car has a major miss-fire" i replyed "no.. I haven't noticed one" they took me out in the car and it was spluttering and unable to rev at all.. sounds very much like hitting the rev limiter all the way throught the revs.. but didn't get over 4-5k because it took so long... would run out of road..

they kept the car over night and re-did the work they had already done.. called me back in and said the car was fixed, as soon as i pulled out of the dealership the fault was very much still there... and told them to fix the car as when i brought it to them it did not have this problem,

they have made me pay for some new plugs/dizi/ht leads.. I have a feeling im being mugged off..

I didn't know if you guys wanted me to name the dealer so i have left it out..
but i would like to know if it sounds like plugs/dizi/ht leads or somthing much worse.. they have told me they have checked the timing on the belt and the valves..

if anyone could advise me on what to look out for/ask when i next pick it up. and/or if the belt is ek9 specific.
or just any comments is fine

cambelt for the B16B is Exactly the same as the B18 in the DC2 Integra, your in UK? so its exactly the same as the UK Integra R.

so No it is not special.

On to the misfire, Did your car run fine before you had the work done? all the way to 8.5k RPM?

the cam timing can easily be mis-timed when changing a cam belt, and worse can cause damage to the engine (e.g Valve bending).

sounds like they mess up on the belt change and try to get more money out of you?

But i don't know how your car was running before....

Honda told me the car had a special cam belt which they couldnt get in stock and would have order especially.

My car ran fine all through the rev range before i sent it in.

Thanks for your reply

Sound's like they are trying to get more money out of you for there mistake's (covering cost's):nono::nono:

If i was you i would refuse pay a penny more than your Original quote when you booked it in!

Your car was fine when you took it to them, you expect to get it back the same way!

If there argue the toss with you get on to trading standards!!!!! Trust me they will back you up!

Plus tell the garage you are seeking advice from trading standards! (they will **** there self):D

sounds like they have ****ed up badly. Sounds almost like similar symptoms to my old car after that had a cam belt change. Found out the timing pin hadnt been set right.

As the guys said. In no way should u say any more than your orgincl quote as any problem with the car requiring repairs should of been down to your decision before anything took place anyways. And at the moment i would be tempted to hold out on even paying for the orgincl work until the car is in perfect running order.
Go to citizens advice if you have any problems.

sounds like your getting ripped off. ive changed my timing belt (is cam belt the same thing???) plenty of times without any hitches. they screwed up dont pay them anymore. take your car to a real mech. good times :D

Hey....

Thanks for the reply's

just got of the phone to Honda, and they told me its fixed! changing the spark/ht/dizi fixed it.. when i go pick it up ill find out more..
