Engine wont crank over

I just went out to have a look at the engine lol I was wrong the studs are actually insulated from the head because of the rubber seals. So the Earth on the rocker cover is to provide earth to the cover only it would seem

so does the rocker cover stud actually do anything or not? does the thermostat housing one not earth the head?
I'm confused how I've been running without one if its not needed... lol

No, avoid stacking them.

Gearbox is already earthed to the head, via the block, it's all bolted together.

Earth the head to the strut top (spare bolt hole on back of head) and earth gearbox to chassis leg, and a nice neat one from the cam cover stud.

Job done

ive got nowhere to earth the head on strut top, its all painted and all the old studs have been removed.
if the gearbox and head are attached, why do I need to earth the head?
I dont particularly want one from the rocker cover either when I never had one before

that post doesnt really help lol, it addresses none of the issues I have with earthing the head and wondering how it ran before without if its so vital?

Well you need more than one earth,

You never stated you had filled the holes so I didnt know that...

All I suggested was fit earths where they should be, they are there for a reason,

The engine is effectively the Central earth hub for the whole car.

The alternator earths directly through the block which then earths through the head (bolted)then through the cable to the body to the battery to complete the charging curcuit, that's why you need it. With out it it will run if your gearbox earth is good, but it's not ideal at all,

You need to make sure all your thermostat earths,(the little ones) are really clean as well, and that your starter motor is earthing to the gear box (in case you have painted it?)

Picture your wiring, I think something's not right with that.

redoing it all tomorrow. will get a proper thicker earth on the gearbox and maybe find a way to earth head from the back and go from there.

gearbox has been polished so is properly bare metal, starter was painted but masked over the connecting point. other earths all seem clear and free of paint, hopefully I have some luck tomorrow :/

I think it was a bad earth, but I'm sorted and she runs now :D thanks for the help! :D
i just have a thick 4 gauge earth off the gearbox now, no rocker cover one

Great news :D

Sweet! So when's the mapping?
