hi all
i have an ek4 sir and it seems to be breathing very heavy on cold start up when you remove the oil filler cap there is a lot of air being forced through and can feel it on your hand. no oil is being blown out burnt or used so i know the usuall diagnosis would be piston rings but as said no oil or smoke from exhaust or brom breather pipe. could my induction kit be causing this and is this normal on cold start. ill check it later after a drive and see what its like then but any oppinions please also please note there is no loss in performance and it pulls like it should in all gears.

Cheers Chris

Please dont tell me your taking your oil filler cap off while the engine is running ??????????

If you are then stop coz my mate did this and forgot to put it back on 50 miles down the road oil had all been vaporised and his engine seezed. HE had to get a new engine which wasnt cheap.

What do you mean by breathing heavy ?

Do you mean it feels like it has trouble breathing on cold starts ??

by removing the oil filler cap when the engine is running you can generally check to see if the piston rings are worn as e.g a lot of air generally being pushed through = fooked rings and possible worn engine. but what i want to know is if this is a normal thing with a vtec engine as there is no oil being used or burnt.

this is only a silly thing to do if you dont put your filler cap back on.

blocked crankcase breather?
you should feel it suck instead of blow so some thing is definatly up with it
try cleaning your breathers out i supose....

people genrally dont leave thereoil cap off un attended.. well i dont anyway lol

from what i have found is the 4-2-1 manifold i have fitted is not equal length (sounds like a scooby u
on cold start and i read some where bout this causing a pulse in the engine and not being good for it any chance it could be this?

also by breathers do you mean the oil breather that goes to the induction kit?

hmmm im not sure about the manifold i have a friend that has an eg thats sounds abit "scoobyish" i havnt heard of any problems with it
yeah but there must be a link to the top end someware, how often do you change your oil? i would say try a engine oil flush but they are bad:nono:

i have had the oil changed last week. the oil was prev done about 6k before.
i checked it when i first got the car and it was blowing then but not excessively like now. mmmm not sure ill have to take it to a garage let em have a look. was first alerted me to it was on cold start up i could hear like a whining noise and i thought it was cambelt or something but when i had a proper listen it was coming from the induction kit.

oh that... mine does that it sort of sounds like a fan type thing?
thats fine mate:nice: stick a vid up of the noise ;)

well ill take it to garage tomoz cheers for your help ash-ek4 my dad thinks it might need a new seal on one of the intake headers so it my be blowing past that which means it wont be burning oil so sounds like that to me and as ya know the cars are our babies lol.
