Hello am having a problem with my b16a engine getting it tho a mot. The emission are to high. The standerd mid pipe and back box is new but the cat is a bit old. Tryed it first and it was reading 0. 90 c2 and I have try a nother car of a civic got it down to 0.50 and that's still not good! Ment to be 0.30 c2 but I bought a brand new cat and for some reason it was worse!!! Was readying 1.20 mark!! I don't get it! Help?

Could be the O2/Lambda sensor?

Yes more than likely a bad O2 / Lambda as mentioned making it run very rich

I have put loads of cars, both vtec and turbo charged cars with no Cat fitted and passed the emissions test without any problems

Yes. Lambda being wrong is absolutely nothing to do with the cat.

Lambda is "excess air ratio" though - meaning its probably an air leak rather than a faulty sensor.

Reseal/gasket as your first port of call.

I'm too having a very high emissions value on my B16B... Cat is new and all the rest seems to be just fine. Could it be that the lambda is not working properly? Wouldn't the engine assume a faulty O2 sensor? I have no errors or codes on the ECU... (ECU is the original for the B16B on a facelift EK9)

I don't even know what else to do on this.... CO is around 7 with the car cold... drops to 1,7 or 2 with it warm.... and HC is around 0.500!

No way I'll manage to pass this beast here in Switzerland with these values :(

My thinking... This may not be 100% true but If the lambda goes faulty it can in turn cause the ecu to run the wrong idle fuel trim which can then cause a high reading

I know of 2 people who had high emmisions readings and after changing the primary O2 the cars returned to normal readings and passed MOT
