what is the best way to get good torque gains from a B16B NA?? Am I right in saying that the standard torque is 115ft ibf?

Hope someone can help!
Cheers:nice:

make the most of what you have got, use your gearbox properly, keep the revs up!!

Stock torque should be around 109-110 ft/lb of torque.

Whats your budget?

Thanks for the replies. I dont actualy have an EK9 yet, hopefully will have in august. I was just enquiring at the moment. :)

Jugbugz - not sure I would like to change these. Am I right in saying the cams in the B16B are about the best thing about it??

denward - do you also mean the 4.9 final drive? or do you mean different LSD, etc?

space monkey & olly ek9 - I will try my best, I have been driving an ek3 for the last 2 years so will take a while to get used to the difference no doubt.

Edu - lightweight flywheel sounds good. Which one tho? Fidanza? dont really know anymore!

gav ek9 and absolut - when you say final drive, do you mean the Mfactory gear ratio change?? I've read about that and it sounds interesting.

rvm - I will prob have about 3k to play with depending on the price of the Ek9 i get.

If I was to get a spoon ecu, the 4.9 final drive and a lightweight flywheel. Would that be a good route?? With the spoon ecu is it just plug and play or do you have to take it to get mapped, etc? I will also get a spoon exhaust system and mani, a drop in filter and an earthing kit. I like toyo rad's too but I may have run out of money by then!! :D we'll see what happens.

Thanks again!:nice:

no you cant get the spoon ecu mapped... ya sounds like a good idea you have.

ya thats what i meant

yeah there are different ways of doin transmission, close ratio gearing or final drive, then you`ve got the choice of 4.7 or 4.9, standard or pro etc. From what i`ve read and learned gearing is defo the best bang for buck with that and a lightened fly will notice a big difference. To be honest though when you 1st get your car keep it stock for a while and enjoy it !:nice:

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I'll try and keep it stock for a while, dont worry I will defo enjoy it!! Cant wait! just wana get my holidays out the way and I'm good to go.

I got a TODA clutch kit, TODA's flywheel is made of CrMo and is 4.1kg. I really don´t feel confortable with aluminium. Good luck with your new car and keep in touch.

reasonable torque can be achieved from b16 n/a without changing any internal components of engine (external bolt on parts on required with good tune + headwork) but if you want nice torque (little more than stock k series) then you need to 1.8

dont look around net too much in terms of forums etc as lot of bullshit about

to get idea look at reliable figures from actual high end race ek9 that still run b16b

There are to ways to have more torque, improving the engine to make more torque, and improving your driving styles and transmission mods to make better use of torque already available.
A gear set and/or higher final drive, lightweight flywheel and simply keeping the engine in max torque range(6000+) will make the car feel like it has immense torque. New gears especially will make best use of torque available.
Some motor mods will "trade" torque, sacrificing torque at low RPM's for gains up high, for example- new opened up exhaust and short ram intake, bigger intake manifold, bigger throttle body. Used by themselves and you will lose low RPM torque for a trade up high. Sometimes what you will lose a lot of low to mid RPM torque with these mods, only to gain back a little higher in the rev range. Ask RVM about his 3" comptech exhaust. On a motor that is fully built however, these mods are finally part of a complete equation and you have more torque than stock through the whole rpm range. What is involved in a complete motor build is for a different thread, but I will say that more displacement like 1.8 or 2.0 liters will produce more torque, and a turbo kit will produce even more.
