Ebay exhaust manifolds

Has anyone tried any of the manifolds around the 150-200 quid bracket knocking about on ebay, UBS autos, japspeed etc??

I know they won't be as good quality as a toda, spoon etc, but I need a manifold to fit on my car as I don't have one to suit the b18c going back in (b16a2 come out), so looking at cheap ish 2.5 inch manifolds. As long as the fit and quality is generally OK then it'll do, don't really wanna fit a heavy cast OEM one.
 
A buddy of mine fitted a japspeed mani before on his Dc2. Made the car sound like a subaru on idle (unequal length runners) and he said that the performance did suffer.
 
The oem b18c 4 into 1 is one of the best you can get I just sold one for 180. I'd go for that over a cheaper item. Or you can pick up a decent second hand aftermarket for reasonable money. A skunk2 alpha sold on here for just over 200 a couple months back.
 
x2 on a oem b18c manifold. better than some aftermarket ones.

so its unequal length pipes which give it that sound, caused by bad airflow?

i borrowed a mates toyosports mani for a few days and that did the same
 
My brothers fairly dented in exhaust manifold also makes the subaru sound, definitely affecting the flow. In fact thought it was a subaru going by the house till I saw him pull in.
 
Yeah the "boxer rumble" (as the lads at work put it) is just unequal length manifold runners.
 
Was the loss of performance on the japspeed measured on a dyno or are we talking seat of the pants here as a 4-1 would probably feel a little down compared to a 4-2-1 at low to mid revs??

I have been offered a PLM big tube toda rep - any good?

Can't find any decent JDM manifolds, there'e one on ebay but its all flattend underneath and he still wants £200 for it!!
 
Iv heard good things about plm from the us guys on b16s b18s if it's cheap and cheerful it will be good to go imo
 
I've got a standard manifold off my ek9 if that's any good to you?
 
Yeah this was seat of the pants thing.
Tbh I'd keep the stock one on if your upgrade is the likes of japspeed. Save your money for something else

I don't have an exhaust mate. It's not an upgrade.

Well I guess having an exhaust is an upgrade over not having one :p
