Civic EK Race car

so what you say is these mfactory con. arms with tein coilovers well make a great suspension setup for an ek or an eg ????

The mfactory lcas are stronger (bushes) which allows less movement... similar to oem shocks to coilovers i believe..
please corect me if im completely out

lovely build
as u said not much power but sure shld alot of fun to drive :drive:

Hi, welcome... nice race EK!! must be vry light

what cars do u compete against?

To answer a few questions...............

The cage is a weld-in custom cages item and is the same design as pretty much all the cages available for the civic. Most, if not all roll cage companies can supply and fit this cage as its available in kit form with profiled ends for about £550.

As for suspension, although a good set-up would require either coilovers or a very good spring/shock combo and possible bigger ARB's, I cant stress enough that having someone knowledgeable to sort out the geomtry will make a world a difference. You can have as many tricks bits as you want but if its all out of alignment, its pointless. Also for a car to handle well you also have to look at the whole package i.e tyres, weight, set-up etc

The Nippon challenge is new this year and is open to all Japanese cars with no real restrictions in the modofied class. Should see a nice variety of cars out there and make for some good racing I hope

:nice:

thanks for your help all i want is a nice and low ek with decent suspension setup for daily drive ....

The main advantage of using spherical over Rubber/PU is near-zero deflection (i.e unwanted movement), yet still allowing unrestricted wanted movement (i.e non-binding). Rubber/PU cannot offer this.

Along with this advantage also comes a slight disadvantage though, which is NVH (noise, vibration and harshness), although this really isn't as pronounced as what a lot of people will tell you. It really just comes down to personal preference as well as making sacrifices (i.e advantages outweighing the disadvantages). You all drive a Honda + VTEC, so enough said ;)

The ONLY issue is what you will be using them for. Our LCA's are designed for race-use-only, so they do not have protective boots like what our spherical camber/toe arms do, therefore if you are going to be daily driving these in a place that snows, it's kind of a no no. Use them on a track though and that's when you will really see the advantage.

Sick to see a racecar with a Mugen grille :woot:

It was sat in my garage gathering dust so thought I would chuck it on there. Apparently it gives an extra 5bhp so it can stay on there for now :)

Some copy pics of a test day at Silverstone 2 weeks back and one of my favourite pics from when I used the Civic for Rallying last year.................

Its Saturday night and all is well, especially as the Civic is now back home

As per my previous post its now running a B18b  and boy has it made a difference. I was a bit unsure on how to drive the car today as it had only done 60 miles since being put back together, but I was assured it would be fine to drive it as intended and he wasnt wrong

The car pulls really well from low revs and the extra torque is very noticeable in every gear, especially as you really had to rev the B16b to get it to work for you. The biggest improvement though is when you use 4th and 5th. Before 4th was quite long and when you changed into 5th, it just sort of bogged down and took ages to build up speed. Now all 5 gears seem really well matched and 5th feels just like 2nd or 3rd in the way it pulls. I spent the past hour driving about in 5th on some twisty B-roads and had plenty of fun without even having to use Vtec.

Am I happy with the changes? Damn right

The work carried out on the car/engine by Performance-Autoworks was as follows......................................

B16b Block, Head and pistons
B18c6 Crank and Rods
New Piston rings
ACL Main bearing shells
ACL Big End bearing shells
ACL thrust washers
Head gasket set
Conversion gasket set
ARP rod bolts
Timing belt, spark plugs, Oil and filter
New rear brake caliper
Reface cylinder head
Reface cylinder block
Hone cylinders
Polish crank journals
Full bottom end balance
Port match cylinder head
New speed de-limiter fitted........plus all the little extras

As you would expect from Richy everything was done to a very high standard and it shows in how well the car now performs.
Theres still a million and one things I want to do and there still more power to be had, but for now i'm gonna enjoy it and get some more racing under my belt.

Cheers for reading and here are some pics taken by Richy

P.S Cheers for the comments guys and the cage is based on a custom cages design which is available form all cage suppliers ;)

congrats on getting a new engine. any dyno specs yet?
also i forgot to ask you this in previous post but is your roof carbon fiber or is it just painted black.
once again, nice car!

Very nice if it was my car id have it as a track car as i dont think civics suit the rally scene!! Nice car tho

Cheers for the comments guys and it is a Track car. I used it for Rallying for 2 years and then converted it to a Race car for the Nippon race series.

As for the roof, its painted black as is the rear spoiler as my pockets arent deep enough for Carbon Fibre just yet :)

No dyno specs just yet, just putting a few hundred miles on it this week then it will go on the rollers for some further tuning. Will post results up as soon as I know

haha love the strongbow piston :p

cars looking in good form :)

Just going back to the bit where you talking about having all your suspension parts alined. I totally agree but was wondering how and where would you go about doing this?

The guys at Performance Autoworks have set the car up as we have gone along and made little changes for each race. They've done a great job considering i'm just one of those people that get in and drive it and dont really have the experience to give any major feedback on the handling except for the obvious. It doesnt help that each circuit is difference so finding a happy medium seems to be the key.

If your in Brum its not a million miles away so give Richy a ring, I can guarantee you will be very happy with the service and level of support they will offer you ;-)

sounds perfect for me :D

and ur right only 45min drive :D

will give them a call when i can get some cash together :D
thanks for the help mate

This car was at japfest wasnt it?

if its the one im thinking about then its very nice :)

Thanks mate and yes it was at Japfest, although it was filthy dirty and front lip was the wrong colour as I had arranged for performance autoworks to drop it off there for me to save me driving up the Fairford.
