I am going to have my b16 ej9 dyno'd in the next week or so , i am wondering once i have the printout what i can do to better this ? i am wanting to spend a bit of money over winter no more than £600 tho ! , on mods to improve the performance from the engine ? whats best avenue to go down ? cams and valvespring change ? or bigger inlet mani ? etc ? or anything else i can do ? the current set up the car is running is

B16a2 (running htune p28 basemap)
Full Custom Exhaust system
Dc2 Airbox

Everything else is factory as far as i am aware when i was servicing engine when it was out of donor car during swap i replaced the usual timing belt , water pump , oil pump , fuel filter , spark plugs , Dizzy leads etc etc

Just want to get more out of my engine without spending a fortune and dont really fancy investing in a b18C as they are a bomb over here lol

^ that's probably about it tbh, £600 isn't much esp when tuning n/a.
Getting a proper map on there might yield some benefit alone. Realistically what are you going to gain? 10-15hp

I'm with Murray on this one, Get the VTEC lowered a touch as well. Should get in touch with VTEC6000 on here if your going for a live mapping session.

My dad has a strong B18C6 available as well, Give him a shout if your interested.

B16b cams and springs and have your ecu mapped to suit.

defo will look into this ! as i want crossover to be more aggressive , happy enough to spend the money over winter anyway

Yeah kris thinking about having the Vtec lowered to 5500 or closer to 5k rpm but the cam and springs change was what i was looking at with a decent map will see what happens tho , braces will be bought too , Car needs mapped anyway as the Basemap has it running rich as ****

Lowering the vtec crossover might not be the best thing for it. Every Vtec point can differ slightly between different setups.
Im sure I had my vtec crossover upped when I put the ek9 cams in.
If you go to VTEC6000 he will have it spot on.

contrary to popular belief an aggressive Crossover is not always a good thing ;)

The smoother the crossover the better :)

if its the noise you want then stick a large carbon intake on there like the famous whale intakes from J's there are plenty of cheaper copies if cost is an issue. the large carbon chamber means it will resonate the sound making it sound more aggressive ;)

if its speed and feel you are after the best modification i did to any of my Civics was taking out the carpet, rear seats, trim, sound deadening and the passenger seat, loosing weight has the same benefit of gaining power but costs nothing. i stored all mine so i could refit it when it came to selling it on.

@Topher-EK9 is right about the cross over. When you do more mods and get it tuned just get an expert tuner to set it where it is best suited for maximum power. This will typically be a smoother cross over but more power is a good thing right?

How big and free flowing is the exhaust? Aim for 2.3-2.5 inch! Hondas like to breath!

With your extra budget I would:
Type R cams and valve springs. If you decide to take the head off to change the valve springs then get the ports cleaned (not ported or polished - save your money!) and then install a thinner Spoon/Buddy Club head gasket for extra compression.
Adjustable cam gears.
Thermal intake gasket along with a coolant bypass away from the TB and IM.
Type R Integra throttle body. Dont upgrade to a 'Type R' or similar intake manifold. You'll gain a tiny bit in the last 500rpm but lose out dramatically in the midrange. Instead just give your B16A2 IM a good clean.
3 inch intake with velocity stack and air box/shield to keep temps down. People will say this will make less power but it'll make more.
Exhaust manifold - look at Toda style or similar.
1 heat range cooler Iridium plugs.
Get the whole lot tune and cam gears dialed in.

If you have money left over:
Light weight flywheel and clutch.

I ran a similar setup in a very healthy B16A and made more power then every B16B with similar bolt on mods on the same dyno. The rod stroke ratio of the B16A coupled with the Type R cams and supporting breathing mods is an excellent combo!

I agree with last 3 posts.

Get a nice gearbox, empty your car, remap your car and have a lot of fun :)

I was also gonna say get a shorter box with proper lsd - it will make the car far better than the few hp you will gain by swapping cams around.

Agreed, I'd be focusing on the gearbox.

Gearset is $600, although agreed you won't get it built etc for that. Even doing it yourself by the time you got syncros etc your well over your £600

Short of buying a b20 bottom end(comes with their own issues) I can't see anything better than say a 4.7 s4c box...

Only a £600 budget. Not getting a good short box for that.
It depends on what you consider good:) My 4.9 fd gearbox with Cusco lsd cost me £600. Proper gearset would be better, thats true but even a 4.7 box with oem lsd would beat the few extra ponies he would get with £600.

See im not so sure. I went from a b16 with the usual bolt ons to having it mapped with b16b cams and the difference was very noticable. It transformed the car. All on the standard y1 box.
Obviously results can vary from car to car.

But how much of it was down to the map and how much to the cams? I bet map alone will bring most engines to life as stock map is always going to be too generic. I have no doubt B16B cams would give him more power, but I really think gearbox would be better.
OP: Is your car a daily or just a toy? If it is just a toy get a plate LSD, the best thing you can buy for any FWD hot hatch imho

Swings and roundabouts really. All depends on what the Op wants from the car.
