Soooo, I seem to like making these car wont start posts but hey ho :alone:

People on my fb will have seen I had no power - it has power now, but it wont start, just cranks over like it wants to start but wont.

has spark, has fuel. the spark plugs are flooded but I guess thats from trying to start it so many times to no avail. can dry them out and try again, but it wasnt starting regardless.
car does have a new ecu, but its got my original s300 with map on it still so that shouldnt make any difference
none of the engine earths/loom have been touched? timing shouldnt have changed or anything?
interior loom has been out and put back in, alarm has been removed since the loom was taken out. All seems to be okay, but could anything here stop it working?
not sure if it makes any difference, but starting the car with the barrel not attached to the column, just in my lap. dont know if theres any security features that would stop it working, doubt it?
the battery is fine, even jumping it doesnt make a difference. battery earth is fine.

errrm, any ideas? :D

Does it sound like it wants to go? or is it just spinning over with no signs of life?

It sounds like it wants to, it always used to take a little while to start with a little bit of throttle. it sounds like if you blipped the throttle it would start, but no joy :(

Have you had the dizzy cap off for a look? if the cars been sitting for a bit in the cold could be damp in there. After that I would try another known dizzy.

If the plugs keep getting wet but there is a spark I would guess at the coil being the culprit and the spark being not quite strong enough.

Had this problem when I had a msd coil, it just would not start from cold with out **** loads of cranking but ran normal when fired up

I replaced the rotor, coil, and cap in the dizzy last year - I can take it off and have a look though! my leads are fairly old and have a tendancy to pop off on track days mind. i wasnt sure if there would be no spark if the dizzy was bad though?
It worked absolutely fine before it came apart for cage, so seems strange the dizzy setup would die just like that! Only have a D16 and B16a here to try from, and dont believe either of them fit the b16b

The coil from the b16a dizzy will fit the b16b dizzy

really? TDI tried parts from one on the 9 at mapping as I had a slight misfire at the time and I'm 99% they were different sizes - didn't try a whole dizzy though, can try that if the whole things interchangeable I guess!
@StevieG we're trying that next time you bring the 9 up if so :naughty:

when my dizzy died last time, the engine had no sign of life mind, it wouldn't even attempt to start.
It is sounding like it wants to start now, just cant quite manage it.

I've fitted a b16a dizzy to mine and it worked fine.
Taken it back off now and keeping it as a spare.
Unless you need it?

Could it be the new ECU has a slightly different pin configuration? (Crossed wires). you try quickly plugging your old ecu in, if that's and option?

The caps are different sizes but the coils are the same, I've swapped them between my ek4 and 9.
I would try just changing the coil over first before removing the distributors from both cars and re doing the timing on both etc

All obd2 dizzy's are the same, don't matter if it's from a B16A2, B16A, B16B, B18C, B18C6 or B18C4, they are all interchangeable

You've not got the dizzy on backwards or something silly have you? The tab inside sits at an angle with the camshaft so you'd have done well to mess that up.

I'll be really really surprised if it is the coil/dizzy tbh. it was all replaced out less than a year ago, and the dizzy was fine before it came off the road. only thing that's changed is ecu and wiring been taken out and put back. never touched the dizzy so cant have it on backwards or anything :run:

You got the old ecu still? Or has the s300 been taken out of it and used in your new one?

:megusta:

The car definitely sounds like it wants to fire. Did check it was getting spark on all 4 and it is, but I guess the spark could of been stronger really. We'll try that coil to see if the spark is better and get it to fire :x:
