Hey guys, i was wondering what cams are out there that are slightly more aggressive over the b18c oem cams that wouldnt need a remap to support them.. my compression isn't standard. cheers

If your changing cams you will need a remap to suit.

Technically if you change your manifold or even air intake you should get a remap but as said any cams you will need a remap

im not disagreeing with you fully because yes its best to remap but its not 100% necessary all the time as there won't be a massive difference in air and fuel on a b series with bolt ons. I'm wanting to know what cams are out there that will retain stock idol and run relatively smooth with no need to remap, but have a slight edge over oem cams... I'm running a spoon ecu with a high comp head gasket, mugen airbox, skunk2 header and buddyclub spec 111 exhaust.

Why not just sell the Spoon ECU and get a remap? What's the point in spending £££ on cams when you will only be getting a small percentage of the possible gains out of them?

First thing I'd do is ditch the Spoon ECU seen a good few engines and some of them on this forum go pop due to that ecu.

Main problem with that ecu is it is set for 100ron octane fuel which you can't get over here.

As @oifovo said get it remapped. B18CR cams are plenty enough :)

the fuel is mapped to 98 ron, same as the o.e.m ECU.. I know what your all saying and i agree to a point but in my opinion when it comes to b series i don't really understand why you would re-map it with just bolt ons. the gains are minimal unless you have a high comp build.. the spoon ecu is designed to work with bolt ons and cams so the map will cater for basic tuning. It changes the fuel, air, vtec and timing depending on what parts are fitted. Of course it not going to be spot on but it will be more than enough to run smooth and safe.

The gains are certainly not minimal. My b18c has a Tegiwa manifold, custom air intake, decat and 2.5 system. I recently got it remapped by @Vtec6000 last weekend and the difference is night and day. It's a totally different car and it's the best mod/money I have spent on my car by far.

What did you gain? Figures before and after? If your talking about k series then i wouldnt be having this debate.. Id choose the remap all day long

If you search the forum there's a thread about Spoon ECU - someone from this very forum contacted Spoon directly and was told NOT to run it if not used on 100 RON fuel that's available in Japan as that's what it's been designed to run on. Now this could well be just Spoon covering their back in case the engine goes pop but I can't understand why anyone would want to risk it when a CUSTOM map made specifically for your engine costs pretty much the same (if you bought the Spoon ecu second hand) or is even cheaper (if you bought it new). Remap is not just about power, it's mainly about how the power is delivered, I was there when Logan's car was being mapped and his power curve is amazing, there are no flat spots and the car pulls like mad you can't even tell the VTEC kicks in (well, apart from the noise of course :) ) that's how good it is. No stock or generic aftermarket ECU will ever achieve that.

I think this has got off subject, spoon ecu is mapped on the same settings fuel wise as the oem ecu.. The cpu chip in the spoon ecu is the only difference and has nothing to do with fuel parameters. My spoon ecu was bought 2nd hand and its alot cheaper than mapping.. Like iv said im not disagreeing with you, re-mapping is prob the best way but i feel its not needed with what iv done to my engine. Im confidant enough that the spoon ecu can handle it all just fine. This subject was about cams and not a ecu debate lol

I've got some skunk2 pro series cams il do a deal with your b16b buddy

The pro series are better buddy the tuner are mild my pros are about the same as the tuner stage 2 and they only pro 1

Burny..... know one cares about what you have to say on this subject lol

I've just done a bit of research on the Pro 1s as I'm thinking about buying them from adam myself - you'd definitely need a set of aftermarket springs and retainers to run these. If you want to give them a go on the Spoon ECU I'd be genuinely interested to hear how is it going cope with such cams!

a friend of mine installed these cams on his jordan and ran a spoon ecu.. i can tell you it was epic, pulled on my standard ek9

Tuner 1 cams are drop in cams. Iv seen a few people run them with standard internals no map with no trouble. Obviously a remap would be ideal but not essential

Is there a drop in cam that would be slightly better over the b18c cams? Or would that be tuner 2/ pro 1's
