I bought an eg6 today with a b16b engine and gearbox, suspension, brakes and wheels. In the advertisement for the car the guy said it needs a map sensor, when i start it up it idle's at like 800rpm for a second or two and then the engine check light comes on and it idles at 1500rpm when you start driving it its very rough untill you get to about 3000rpm and even after that it feels like its holding back. If you come to a hill and let it die down to below 3000rpm it struggles to pull itself up the hill. It is just like my old bmw when the air flow meter was f**ked. Would a bad map sensor be my problem? Or anyone have any ideas on what could be the problem?

Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.

Best thing to do is find out why the check light is coming on by doing a diagnostic check that should tell you what sensor is giving the problem

Thanks, the guy who I bought it off said he did a diagnostic check and it came up the map sensor but I thought he could have been lying to hide a bigger problem, I guess I'll get a map sensor then. Do those symptoms sound like a dodgy map sensor though?

You can do a diagnostic check yourself just to make sure the map sensor is at fault before you go out and buy one. Click on this link Honda-Tech.com: Honda Civic/Del Sol (1992 - 2000): THE NEW CEL THREAD (HOW-TO & CODES) and follow the instructions

why dont you just listen to vtech6000 and:

find out why the check light is coming on by doing a diagnostic check that should tell you what sensor is giving the problem

once you've dont that then go ahead and change what needs to be changed, dont just change the map sensor without being sure thats what it is.

Well its past midnight now so ill check in the morning
Thanks for the help guys.

So proud to finally be a b16b owner!

I cant find the "jumper plug" on my ecu, here is a pic of my ecu, can anyone show me where the jumper plug is, and is this an ek9 ecu?

the service connector is above the ecu when its mounted to the side of the footwell, the connector is plugged into a plastic socket that stops it from dangling loose. its the 2P connector. :nice:

Please tell us the numbers your ecu has in the side sticker, that way we can tell you it is a ek9 ecu, I think you might have a ek9 ecu, since you have a OBD2 to OBD1 conversion harness :)

Thanks guys, ill get the number tomorrow.

I think I need a new loom, the person who did the swap has made a complete mess of the wiring (cutting and splicing wires). Can I just buy a new pre made loom that i simply plug into all the sensors in the engine bay and then connect to the ecu? If so where could I get one? If I have a obd2 to obd1 conversion harness does that mean that the engine/dash loom on the car is from a eg6? If it does would I be better off buying an ek4 engine loom? Is the ek4/ek9 engine loom the same?

I had an issue where the wiring was also pretty much a hack. The guys who performed the swap thought it was a MAP sensor problem...well it was. Even though they believed it was hooked up, it was not, despite having the OBD2-OBD1 conversion

After the MAP was hooked up, car drove as it should...

Where on the obd2 to obd1 harness should the three wires from the map sensor be connected?

In that pic they are the three most left hand side on the front row (nearest the camera) Is that where they shoud be?

I put in my new map sensor and it idles fine now (no cel) but when you touch the throttle it dies.
