My mate has a CRX with a jdm B18C in, hes taken it to a garage to have rings and stem seals done as it was smoking. the garage rebuilt the motor and the problem was still evident - still smoking from the exhaust. (with new rings?!) the garage have now sent the engine to some "engineers" (?) to have it checked. But theres always the possibility its ovulated one of the bores. Is there any other (cheaper) way of fixing the issue without expensive honing and oversize pistons being fitted??

cheers in advance guys!

He isnt over fueling it is he? or using a too thin oil?
Dunx

He has only just bought the car about 3 weeks befor he sent it in for a rebuild!

Cant be sure about about either but his plugs were fine when we checked them on all 4 pot's! and we compression tested it and got 1-200psi 2- 215psi 3- 200psi 4- 120psi

And he was using 10-40 magna tec!

too many variables... but from the symptoms you described, it was probably one cylinder that got damaged previously...possibly from overheating.

The shop that did the work should have checked for roundness in all of the bores before fitting it with new rings.

I know that when i did a compression test on an old car that the one cylinders with the lowest psi rating was the problem cylinder.

it just concerns me that you think that considering you have around 200psi in 3 cylinders and 120psi in the 4th! either its a mis-type or you may have diagnosed where the problem lyes!

I know they should have but sound's like a rite cowboy place to me!

I would have checked that myself, i offered to rebuild it for him but he wantted it doing like yesterday, i dont have the time with working and all!
But the garage have had his car for nearly 4 weeks now and still no closer!
I would have had it back on the road at leat 2 weeks ago!:angry2:

Well i supose it will teach him a lesson for rushin into thing's!

I know myself what the prob is (i think without seein it myself) but my orginal question was! can anyone think of a cheper way to fix the prob without honing and oversize pistons being fitted??
