An update!
Played with the angle of the oil return abit. Im limited to what i can do so im not holding my breath that this will stop the smoke but its defo a better route than it was.
Compression checked the motor again just to see how the engine is reacting to my tune and the nurburgring trip. Compression is still holding up strong so thats good and somewhat prooves the tune isnt dangerous.
I noticed that one of my turbo to manifold bolts have snapped and another has come out completely. This is the first time ive ever lost a bolt with nordlock washers on. Will sort that when i can.
Bought some bonnet vents so set about fitting those.

Looks alittle bit fast and furious but should clear some heat out the bonnet and improve radiator, inter and oil cooler efficiency a fair bit.
I wanted to get another 3psi into the tune but ive not had the time, so ill be at santa pod this sunday running it at 1 bar, not many people have seen this thing go at 1bar so will be cool to get peoples thoughts on it! if you see me come and say hello and ill be sure to get some video footage and a timeslip.
Hoping to get into 12s and trap close to 120mph. This should then back up my 400hp guestimation.

Mate I think that looks wicked haha! And can only help with temps.

Tbh if I done that I'd expect abuse too its one of those ones like my big wing, but it's your car and built for purpose lol

Yeah im not even sure i like it tbh but its purely for function.
Had to grind through a varis carbon fibre bonnet though....

Lol mate no mucking about there then fair play

Update from santapod

Car wasnt quite as fast as id hoped tbh, although i think this is due to my driving asmuch as anything else.
Result was a 13.3 at 117mph with a 2.4s 60ft.
Heres an inside shot of it in action

The car didnt make any smoke the whole journey so thats a good sign for the oil return.

The trap speed indicates good power being made depending on the weight of the car. Did you have a BGW on?
Get your 60ft down to 2 seconds ish and you will be well into the 12s.

No didnt have a wing on.
I was launching on cold semi slicks aswell as i wasnt going to do burnouts on a £300 set of tyres.
Its more challenging than inexpected but its not my cup of tea tbh.

So its been a while since an update. I was meant to be on the dyno thursday just gone but the car wasnt having any of it!

I thought id got through santa pod unscathed, i was wrong!
basically the car keeps popping its driveshaft out(driverside) but not enough to lose drive. Enough to spill oil all down the underside of the car and catch the exhaust, sending a smoke screen out the back of the car!
Must admit i feared the worst when i first saw the smoke!
Now the lack of oil may have been the cause of the next gearbox issue, i cant get 3rd gear after the cars been sat at 80-90mph for 10mins and 5th gears syncro hub and slider are complete trash!

So now ive got afew options after sourcing parts.

Ive got another 4.7s80 with my name on it but it needs atleast 1 bearing replaced.
Ive got the spare parts to rebuild mine.

Atm im thinking just Gfab mine together and hope it holds over the winter whilst i take the new box and give it a decent once over. Realistically i cant afford a proper rebuild on any gearbox right now so a less than ideal compromise must happen.
I could take the bearings out of my knackered box and put them in the new box, thats also a viable option...

Mate, use what you have , nothing wrong with that .
But why was it popping out ?
Did you do a cv joint lately ?
Mash up the box and she be a good one .

I'd swap the bearing and use the other box, if for no other reason then to find out whether the issue is due to the box or something else?

Problem is im going to want to use my diff.
Im hoping it popped loose at pod and i didnt notice the smoke out the back because it was dark.
Then when ive tried to put it back in by hand at the side of the road ive not put it in properly.

So whilst i had the car in bits ive had some bits to attend too.
Mainly turbo related....obviously.
I had managed to snap a turbo mounting bolt and lose another bolt, meaning i had 2 bolts holding the turbo up at one point!
Also means i burnt the gasket it abit so off that all came.
Then i noticed how much smaller the inlet flange was compared to the gasket, measured the manifold and sure enough the turbo flange is a good 2mm minimum smaller width ways and 1.5mm smaller length ways.
This must cause some sort of turbulence to the exhaust gas flow having to take a step (albeit a small one) probably not such a big deal on a turbo engine due to the exhaust manifold being preasurised but flow is flow right?
Well i got myself some carbide bits and got happy with the dremel tool, i decided not too fully match the gasket because the gasket is also larger than the manifold is..
The funky looking shape you see on the top left was like that to start with, that wasnt me lol
So i pulled the meat off the flange and then tapered it back down into the housing. Looks like ive taken loads off down in the housing but i havent...

Wish id got a before picture tbh but nevermind.
The next issue was that intercooler "hotside" piping was touching the exhaust downpipe, so afew minutes with the vice ive ovaled the intercooler pipe and managed to pull it a good bit away from the downpipe.
All bolts replaced with 12.9 bolts and fresh Nord-Lock washers so hopefully i wont get issues with that anymore!

You are better off with studs holding the turbo on, rather than bolts.
Would get rid of the snapping issue and are stronger.

See i tried the whole stud and nut thing on a previous car and had no luck with it. Granted they ddnt snap off of me though.
If this arrangement fails ill give the studs and nuts ago, this time with the Nord-Locks holding them tight!
