robthedoc's ek9 turbo, adventures in boost!

Kozy was the man for this. Mind you he'd have it solved for us with one post lol

Haven't posted in ages, been lurking in the background but busy af.

The 9 has taken a bit of a back seat recently.

Long story short before I relocated down south a mate made me a new manifold. Was stunning absolute work of art but... in usual rtd fashion I had problems with it. Aonghus was over and mapped two cars if built. B18c and high comp b16b. Then we put the 9 on and the boost was all over the place. Tbf I should have done a lot more prep for tuning than I did. Anyway we took the boost control out and it's running spring pressure on a conservative map to keep it safe. Drove it to stoke and done nothing with it. Except fit nsx brakes.

Had it on the dyno at work and it did a 399.7 but the clutch died almost immediately after it came off.

So it's off the road for the winter. I've got an ep3 daily now and it's getting all the attention. I've been set a challenge by a mate to shoot for 585 whp next year! Looking at changing the housing from .63 to .83 and going cop with some standalone management. I'll get some recent pics up tonight and try and keep this up to date.

I heard some bell end say the x is an expensive myth once upon a time lol. No idea mate people keep saying Borg efr

Tbf if you bought say a gtx3076 then yeah. Expensive and you aren't gaining much due to restrictive 30 exhaust turbine. But stick the same compressor on the 35 turbine wheel and your making huge gains.
If I was buying again I'd go borg warner efr. Not that I'm not happy with the gtx, you'll see come dyno day...

Will see how it pans out. Ideally I'd like to keep the 30 and change the housing but I think I'm probably dreaming.

Sam had the same issue recently. Not sure what he did to fix it mind.

585whp. cant see it being much faster than what it is now. especially on the road. if its a drag car then yeah but road car no point imo.

Tbf I bet it rips the **** out of 5th gear!

At 493 it was untouchable on the motorway. 666bhp rx7 was absultelt no where to be seen! With the management I'm looking at it should be much better for drivability in lower gears as well.
