EK9 Racecar

Matt is right, it's upside down.
if you look at the gasket there is a unused hole overhanging the back of the block on the belt end and a open oil gallery on the gearbox end.

Hate to admit it but you're right guys! What an idiot! I think the heat has fried my brain....
Better buy another gasket

These things happen, especially when you're trying to crack on and get things done,

I would just go for a oem gasket, as far as I'm aware the buddy club is thinner, and will have a small effect on cam timing and raise your compression slightly.

Yes I feel like a right dumbass, and expensive mistake. But we learn from our mistakes, and I'll never do it again!
I've done loads of head gaskets but I suppose the difference is I usually take them apart and put them back together in a day, not months apart!
I can't begin to thank you guys enough for spotting it! Really appreciate it @EK9 Matt
Will order an oem one, Tegiwa owe me some discount for returning a miss sent item.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but hopefully saved you some heartache in a few weeks time. As Jesse said, a lot of people have done that, one of my mates did it and drove round for weeks with it using coolant!

Not much of an update! Just corrected my foolish mistake :megusta:

Oem headgasket and new thermostat.

Fitted the waterpump and that's about it.
No updates over the next few days as got a family thing going on.
Hope to get the engine back in the car mid next week as The following weekend the new family member is arriving.....

Not sure an engine in the front room will be good for this little one.

Had a few minutes spare this evening so fitted some more bits.

Hopefully will get the cam's in tomorrow and the timing belt, as long as the camshaft oil seals turn up that I forgot to order o_O

Got to cut the bottom bell housing mount a bit to get the sump to fit.

Cut out some material so the sump fits.

Busy night last night. Engine is in! :))
Made sense for me to get the engine in the car at this point.
Lots of pictures....

That's the progress you want to see isn't it!

Love the attention to detail and how clean everything is!

Thanks man :)) thought I'd might as well have everything cleaned and painted while it was out.

Yeh man! Feels good to have the engine back in the car
Going to be sorting out the garage tonight so I've got an nice clean place to work.

So have an issue with the crank locking after fitting the engine in the car, so after pulling my hair out and lots of thinking, @jesse888 has found the answer, looks like my clutch is catching on a lug inside the bell housing.

So will take the box out and grind the lug down and hopefully it'll be fixed.
Seen that on Rob's thread he had the same issue.

Interested to know what clutch are you using? Why is it catching is what I would be asking myself ans what else could be different with the clutch. Even higher rated clutches should still fit the same as an OEM one and should certainly not catch on the gearbox housing...

I thought this originally when it happened with Rob. They where new on the scene then and alot of people where raving about them. Seems they've not fixed it.

Yeah it seems strange. It shouldn't be catching from the off so if they have now sold a fair few and they still haven't resolved it then something is wrong. If it were me I would consider getting rid and getting something else.

The pressure plate it's quite beefy compared to the oem, I'll get the box out and compare it to oem.
Might not be my issue but I'm pretty certain it is.
I like the clutch, good quality and should work well. When you modify anything there's always issues.
Will update again when I've got the box out.

Lets hope it does work for you then. All of the higher rated clutches I have ever fitted to a B series or D series I have never had this issue and same goes for my 500 Wheel lb/ft rated clutch that's in my Evo, that includes twin plate clutches too. Just seems strange, Can I ask what make it is? and the reasons why you chose that one?

Edit: Just noticed the box in the back ground, so can I ask why you chose this over something like the Competition Clutch?

Of course you can, it's an action clutch. I went for this one as it's very strong and I fancied trying something different.
It was from the US, might be that the USDM models have a slightly different bellhousing? Who knows.
I'll let you know what I find when I take it out :nice:
