MidDevelopments D16y8 Turbo Build.

Love a good D series turbo build! these are totally under rated engines which can be built for boost, I'm 90% there with my ITR turbo build, I'm going to need a full exhaust system, I will be in touch :))

Hi Luke, me too people are always surprised when we say its a D series, yet in america they are all over the D series engines, quite rare here in the UK compared.

Oh good, what size exhaust you going for? Yeah deffinitely just drop me a pm or a text and we will sort it out. Where about you based?

Ben

Just read all this. Cracking build! Have bookmarked it for future updates!

Hi dude, any updates to your build ? Is she running?
Regards lee .

Wow, some real work going on here. You mentioned the popularity of boosted SOHC in the USDM market but to be honest even here they are becoming a rarity.

Out of curiosity, what kind of setup would you opt with if you went toward naturally aspirated DOHC ?

@si8pny - Thanks dude, It's getting there slowly but surely, we were hoping to have it running by now but our tuner still hasn't sent our base map over but were not in any rush just yet.

@Leej8 - We haven't done as much as I would of hoped but we have got a bit done which I will update at some point next week. All front arms, hubs, suspension, camber arms, arb, drive shafts are now in place and we are just waiting for some new drop links, discs and pads then we can put the front end back on the floor.

@Javi - Thanks, Oh really? I suppose in a way it is a good thing but in another not so good! There is plenty of info online though :) N/A Dohc B series? or Dohc D16a9?

I had a B18c Ek9 before the car I have now and the parts I had to build it were very good but knowing what I know now I would probably change it but it wouldn't be anything super special or anything that no one has done before but off the top of my head for a B series -

B18c
.5 Oversize Bores (Unless in perfect condition)
Lightweight Con Rods (420g ish)
High Compression Pistons (12.5:1 or slightly higher)
OEM Micro Polished and Balanced Crankshaft
Probably ACL Bearings....
Extended and Baffled Sump
OEM Head Gasket
H11 Head Studs
Minor Head Work (just to tidy up the cast as it flows plenty anyway)
Toda Spec C Cams or something similar 295in 295ex 12.5 lift
Possibly Supertech Valve Springs and Ti Retainers
Supertech Stem Seals
Decoked OEM Valves
Cam Pulleys
OEM ITR Intake opened up and ported.
70mm TB?
Custom Enclosed Intake
RMF or Custom MidDevelopments Exhaust Manifold
MidDevelopments 2.5'' Exhaust and Decat
Hondata S300

Custom Gearing chosen by myself
M facotory 1.5/2 way plated differential
New OEM Synchros
New OEM Bearings
New OEM Seals
Cryogenic Treatment of complete gearset
Dual Stage Shot Peening
ISF (Isotropic Superfinishing) of complete gearset and selector components

To be fair this might still happen if I decide to sell the Evo, either in a CRX, EF9, EG6 or another EK9

Regards

Ben

Thats a blueprint to a perfect build !
It's obvious you have high standards!
All the best dude ,
Looking forward to your next updates

Hay mister @TheBooosh...! How you doing ? Good i Hope,
How is your project coming on ? I know it doesn't help with the likes of me asking all the time, as your very busy
But it's a build that has all my attention lol.
All the best lee

Hi @Leej8 i'm all good thanks, yourself?

Build is coming along OK but no where near as soon as we wanted it due to a number of things. We have so many projects on at the moment its hard to work on everything as we only have limited time as you know. Recently i've been surviving on 2-3hours sleep! And my girlfriend is not happy! But thats the way it is.

The front is ready to be put on the floor as soon as our drop links come. We have decided to run the rpb discs that tegiwa supply for the civic cup and hel braided lines as they have always been top notch for us in the past and their customer relations is 10/10!

We still need to cut the front bumper in order to fit a duct for the oil cooler and we need to turn the car around so we can work on the rear. And we are STILL waiting on a base map!! Its come to a point now where im ready to have a go at it myself. Theres a lot of information online well enough to make a base map up anyway. But we will see.

I've seen your car is coming along nicely! :) you should deffo come over at some point!

Also ive decided im going to keep the evo for this year but i may be back in a Honda soon! My s3 is up for sale at the moment and looking for a nice replacement, ive been offered a prefacelift ep3 not what i originally wanted but owned one 9 years ago and it was great so might consider it yet.

I will get some pictures up as soon as i can :)

Thanks again for the interest!

Ben

I'm good thanks, well first off pal ,2-3 hours a night sleep will take its toll ,and as we all know that have wives,
If there not happy, were not happy! Man I feel for ye .

It will all be behind you come summer time and I'm sure it will be well worth it ,
You've decided to keep the Evo for bit longer,
Although a great car , they do cost a fortune to keep right.
You know I'm gonna say this but a honda is were the
Heart is it seems?
Your a3 is well speced in it ?and up in the bhp ,
Is it a jap ep3 ?or a good spec ukdm one ?
Thing is with the honda you can drive them on
And not be worrying about it failing or leaving ye
On the side of the road .

I know you will make the better choice mate .

Take care and all the best lee.

Hi All,

Sorry this hasn't been updated in FOREVER! we have just had so much going on we haven't had chance and we are nearly half way through the year!! where the hell has it gone?!?

We have been on this for the last couple of nights and the car now runs and idles on the base map but it is a bit hesitant, bear in mind the TPS needs adjusting and there is no O2 plugged in.

We only have a few things to sort, one of which being to find a rear disc conversion so that we can put it back on the ground, other than that its fit the exhaust and tweak a few items and put the interior back together.

I will get some pictures tonight if I can.

On another note we have also been busy building 2 d16 turbos for a few friends, one of which is forged and the other on a stock block.

Will get some pictures up of what we have been doing.

Regards

Ben

Still not had chance for pictures as went mapping the evo yesterday.

Got a picture of one of the friends cars so far but thats all for now.

This one is a d16y8 with eagle rods and SRP pistons 9:1, stock head, new genuine oil pump, new genuine water pump, gates timing belt, evo 560cc injectors with inline resistors, cast manifold, t3/t4 internal gate, 2.5" downpipe and exhaust. With a few other little bits and will be run on a p28.

As for a price it really does depend on what setup you would want. But for 280bhp i would suggest going forged or you may end up with some damage, the ones we have done have been 1bar of boost on t3/t4 usually comes out at circa 300bhp. Just pm me what you actually want and we can go from there.

Thanks

Right on with the updates!

So the last time this was updated we were on the look out for a rear disc conversion.

We no have one from an EK4, all stripped down and powder coated black with new bearings, discs and pads. This is now fitted to the car although we do need to give the calipers a lick of paint with some gloss black. The get them bled.

Other updates include the freshly painted fuel tank re-fitted. Ek9 ARB powder coated red and fitted with new Hardrace drop links. ASR brace fitted. Hardrace rear camber and toe arms fitted. And rear suspension fitted.

Once the brakes are bled the car is ready to go back on the ground for the first time in 18 months!

One problem though, we have no wheels! well suitable wheels. We are still on the lookout for something that goes with our build, think we may go 16 if we can find the right wheels, but we would settle for some 15's if they are right for the car.

When its on the ground we can manoeuvre it around the workshop so that we can get it onto the ramp and continue with the exhaust build and a few other little things that need doing.

Then finally we can refit all of the panels and make sure everything is tight and go get some miles on it :) probably going to do 500-600 miles on the base map. first thing to do when on the road will be to get the geo done as that is going to be way out. We can then get it booked in for mapping too :)

Not sure if anyone knows but can we run multiple maps on the S300 with a switch of a button? Or is it a case of having saved files and uploading them as and when?

Some pictures of the front suspension setup before the brakes, drop links and track rods were fitted -
