Anyone ever rebuild their front brakes ordered a kit online just wanted to know if they are handy done

Done mine. Pretty easy to do, just fiddly with the seals but you'll get it. Have to pop the piston out, can take it to a garage and they'll do it with the air line for free.

loosen the bleed nipple and undo the banjo at the rear, makes it a little easier to get the piston out i've found.

Done a few sets. I find a 'track type' bike pump is fine for popping pistons out on the bench. It makes the seals easier too as you can inflate the dust seal around the piston as you slide it back in. Plenty of cheap dot 4 to lube it all up.

You can pop troublesome pistons out hydraulically while still on the car!

Thanks all I'll have a good go at them don't like the ones from motorfactors as I've had a couple of rear ones that didn't last a year

if you have the rebuild kit you can do them all easily in a day. hardest part is getting the old stuff off/out.

No bother happy days I'll report back on whether I get them done lol

has anyone fully refurbed the rear calipers ? can the handbrake mechanism part of the caliper be refurbed ?

Time scale roughly on them would a day sort them

Basic rebuild could be an hour each side. If you want to paint them and go nuts cleaning them then its an all day job at worst.

If they are that bad though you may need new pistons, they can get very pitted if the dust seals go, or rust gets under them. Saying that, fine wet and dry and fresh fluid will be good for a couple of years on even pretty rough pistons. I had one I thought needed changing as it failed the mot, piston was quite pitted, gave it a very good clean and new seals, and it was still sailing through mots 3 years later, no issues.

if the rears are really bad you can use brakes international. they will post you out refurbished callipers in as new condition and then you post your old ones to them for a little money back. really good service.

Right my rebuild kit came and I measured the new brake pistons and the outside diameter is 54mm and length is 45mm are these the same size As ek4s I had a search on Google just want to confirm
