robthedoc's ek9 turbo, adventures in boost!

Things haven't been going as smoothly as I hoped for guys. Been crazy busy trying to get it to go properly to run it in but... It's been problem after problem.

My s300 started playing up and wouldn't recognise the wideband on analog 0. Managed to get it to work on analog 7 but then had issues with it seeing an eld signal even though the wire had been cut.

@jesse888 is a hero amongst men and sent me his s300 to try as the other one I had turned out not to be a hondata ecu as the sticker on it and seller of the car had us believe lol.

Anyway jesses got it working a bit better but still having issues. Originally when electrical load was switched on lights, heaters, rear screen etc the afr would lean off. Strange as the eld had been cut and it shouldn't of been having such a dramatic change in fuelling. Strapped the sh*t out of it. There are literally earths everywhere. Some management adjustments and the problem reversed! Started to richen up massively when load was applied.

So... New alternator and battery went in yesterday. Seems to run ok but.... (You knew it was never going to be that easy) when driving at part throttle the wideband gauge leans off to the point that the car should be undriveable but it's not it seems fine. So I've borrowed a wideband sensor that will hopefully fit in place of mine today to test. So will update with how that goes.

Seriously stressed with it. But can't thank Aonghus enough for the amount of help and time he's put into getting it going. I'm probably not helping matters as I've got so much into this now I'm doubting myself at every step. But in all seriousness the mans a ledge and we wouldn't be this close to getting it sweet without his time and help. Cheers again mate!

Man keep you're head up, you have a cracking set up and it'll be the nuts once it's all sorted!
If I wasn't so far away I'd offer my help!

It's nearly there bud but thank you for the offer anyway. I'm trying to be positive but I'm not gonna lie I've been close to just giving up breaking it for parts and going on a 7* all inc holiday for 6 weeks. But then what would I do when I get back? Play golf? Fishing? No for me lol I'll stick with the car.... 4 days to go

just small issues you got to iron out isn't it.

Yeah mate but it's always the same with this car, the other ecu I had turned out to not to be what i needed and I've just figured out the other wideband sensor is wrong as well! Its a LSU 4.9 I have and this is a 4.2 and has a different plug. FFS!!!!!

I feel your pain. My agroworks manifold doesn't fit.
So that's got to go back, meaning I'll miss out on my new exhaust system, gutted tbh

Keep at it, you will get it sorted in the end

Your in good hands with Aonghus, he's the most knowledgeable and helpfull tuner/builder that I know of

So trying to resolve fuelling issues and I'm now on a new alternator and battery. The fuel pump is now on a separate relay, using the standard wires as the switch input. The flexi in the down pipe was damaged by the guy that MOT'd the car and on sunday the decision to replace it was made. Dropped off with Niall from Original Fabrications on Sunday night and picked up Monday. Top guy. Supplied and fitted the flexi for 60 quid!

Old flexi

New one

The wideband gauge seems to be reading more what would be expected now and is extremely responsive to throttle changes so I'm hoping the sensor is ok. It's not that dear for a new one but it's another part that's done little milage to be faulty. If it is then it is and I'll have to replace it.

On another note....

This arrived today

The list of stuff I need to do before the dyno is massive! Not much sleep for me then. 2 days till D Day!

Damaged by the guy doing the MOT! :slap:
New one looks the mutts!:nice:

Will be burning the midnight oil for the next couple of days then! What do you have left to do?

I couldn't say much as he's a mate and is very... eh... kind to me lol.

Will be burning the midnight oil for the next couple of days then! What do you have left to do?

Still need to bleed the clutch again, swap out the three port solenoid for a 4 port and wire switch and vac lines, fit the sump and change oil/filter, re work oil return, re work oil temp probe wiring to reach new location, put the screws in the underneath of the side skirts, fit air scoop and duct for the front bumper to oil cooler, fit a new I/C hose clamp when bumper is off, re work some of the ground wires and probably other things I can't remember right now lol

That sump is glorious!

I love it mate. Much hyeavier than I thought it would be tho.

So at in the early hours of this morning the sump was fitted and all was going well... got a few other things done and I was in a good mood. The new Moroso fitted on the bottom of the engine like a glove, beautiful fit and looks fantastic. Honda Habit stud kit working like a dream when tightening up the nuts. Gasket barely moved at all. The three studs above the kicked out bit are a bit of a pain in the ass to get to and there was very limited space between the temp sensor and subframe when starting to screw it into the fitting. Then, problem. the sump is obviously not deigned for the type r lower flywheel cover. I have the standard brackets and flywheel cover plate off the 18c4 but f*ck that, wanted to use the proper ek9 bit. So it was fouling the sump on both sides, on the front only by about and 20mm on the rear about 50. No worries, 1mm cutting disk on the grinder and ill modify it. Will take 2 minutes max. Dug out the grinder, spent an age trying to find the missing bits for mounting the disk, found them, disc on... nothing. Dead. Bad mood now. Tried a fuse out another socket and then gave up. The grinder is definitely broken... I know this as it hit the wall pretty hard. What now? Its late. Work in the morning. Yeah just use the brackets off the c4 for the time being? Nah better idea, out with the hack saw and files and away we go. So it's half 2 ish and its done. Fits round the sump and looks actually half decent! Will get pics when I next have it on the ramp.
