Turbo B16a V B18C Conversion - Opinions Needed

I personally do not want a lot of low end torque on a fwd car, thats why i chose to build a 1.6 and not a 1.8 or 2.0. Thats also why i chose such a large turbo, i could have chose a GT28RS which would spool at 2000rpm and make more torque earlier than a K and still make 350whp but as i mentioned i do not want low end torque on a fwd car. Do not think it is not possible to achieve low end torque and nearly ZERO turbo lag on B series and still make big power, it is very possible.

I'm with you on the over powered FWD car. For me personally I like the bottom end of the K-series on the street, the broad n wide powerband and responsiveness. Kinda like the V8s.

I don't think its impossible to achieve nearly zero turbo lag, most factory boosted cars these days have none. But they all have bigger engine capacity to help turbo spool. I remember driving the twin turbo BMW 335ci. Maximum torque of 400nM @ 1300rpm - 5000rpm. Simply blew me away the way it took off. Amazing engineering! The turbos were tiny!

I have an EK9. Stock B16B.... Im curently running 10 psi as a daily driver.. Im using a T51 turbo from a GTR Skyline (Greddy).....and a thick head gasket....
Where u r doing that shouldnt be a problem...just tune right. The gas over here stinks so im running that on shitty 87 octane... I get around 290 whp. After this i would eventually do a K20 swap...(no time soon though)

hi civic fans, i have an EJ6 hatch and i have been following this thread and have been getting a lot of helpful infos about the topic, anyway i hope you guys dont mind if i post some of my concerns

i plan to have a stock b16a2 + turbonetics kit for a 7psi setup. can i get away with just that kit and a BOV,ECU tuned, front mount intercooler kit, exhaust manifold? also for a 2.5" exhaust with no cat? (meaning no boost controller since i will just go with stock boost all the time, no aftermarket injectors, no aftermarket fuel pumps)

also, will there be a need for a piggyback system such as apexi neos when i tune my ecu for a turbo setupÉ

i read somewhere here that it may cut my engine's life into half? (or did i just misunderstood it?) anyway, just like what was mentioned, i would like to have a fast (with screaming vtec hehehe still), reliable and long lasting engine.

thanks so much!

You need to upgrade your fuel pump, injectors, and have a proper tuning solution like Power FC, Hondata S300, AEM EMS or FIC.

Mine melted a piston after about 6months.
I feel this isn't because it was a boosted b16b but something else failed in the setup.

been reading up on your build on your thread and getting some inspiration. i have a bone stock ek9 and wanting to put in a turbo kit just like you did, starting off with the all stock b16b, low boost. i might melt a piston like yours or maybe not... i just want to experience everything in steps.

No doubt the compression and cast Pistons create abit of an oddball turbo engine but I do think a turbo b16b can last a decent while, just less scope for issues without large consequences.

What compression pistons are you now running Jesse? Curious as ive just bought CP pistons for mine

Mine are wiseco "flat-tops" come out just shy of 10-1Cr

Depends on your power goals and if you can pick up 2nd hand parts really.
I find that all budgets get blown out of the window anyway lol

How much bhp are you running on a dyno mate? I would want at least 300-380

If I were to go turbo I'd be happy with 260 to 280 whp as I'm sure it would be a good safe number for daily driving,
But I'm sure after a while I'd probably won't to crank
That up more !

I've not had it back on the dyno since I rebuilt it but it's around 350 on full boost.
Should be back on the dyno April-ish

Mines around 310 to the wheels.

Well I only have japfest2 to compare really.
Mine was running 300hp, Nicole's car definitely pulled on mine(as expected running 80-90hp more)on the straights.
Matts k20 I was impressed with actually, although I pulled on him it was only obvious at high speeds. Matts is 220 Iirc.
I've come very close to the limiter at the ring but I've not hit it yet, but again I don't run 350 on track(yet)

Whats the most top end you have ever got, with my b16b n/a with s80 box i can hit 135mph all day in 4th few occasions hit 140-145.

5th you mean?
Mine tops out 120 in 4th.
Im not really looking at the speed at the time if I'm honest but I'd guess 145-150mph.
Remember this is on a track so the length of the straight isn't like a motorway where you can just stay on the pedal, plus you got a corner and bumps to think about lol
