backfire

Hey guys my ek9 is fitted with an hks racing suction intake. When just sitting ticking over i can hear pops coming from what im sure is air filter/intake pipe. Is this something to be worried about ?
 
I read an artical about that. But all markings lined up 100% just had recent belt , tentioner and water pump done aswell as a cylinder head rebuild its always done it in the time i have owned it could ignition timing cause it ?
 
Not overly bad just the odd one or 2 every min. It has apexi ecu aswell so not sure of the setup. Im guessing the valve clearances would have been checked when head was rebuilt
 
Would depend who did the head work man. Worth checking. Also the static timing should be done if the head/distributor has been removed.
 
I will have it looked at. There is alot of carbon build up in exhaust but that was there before head rebuild could it be fueling issue ?
 
Has the car been remapped previously? Could be down to an iffy map if it has been.
 
I have never had it mapped just whats been done before i bought it and the guy was a fool so wouldnt trust a word he says. I have a standard ecu would it be worth swapping them over and seeing if there is a diff ?
 
Not got adjustable timing gears on it or anything?
Dizzy timed up properly?
Defo Cambelt times up properly?
Valves sealing tight?
 
@jesse888 was also thinking along those lines of a valve not seated properly and leaking slightly

Yeah I think it's a mechanical issue not a map problem.
If it's timed up properly then the chambers sealed by the time the spark goes off, so no backfire no matter how shitty the map is.
A leak down test would probably show up the issue...
 
Head was just machined valves all done new guides ect. Last time i had leak down test done it was losing through throttle body thats why i had head recond

How does it run at full throttle?
 
It pulls like a train in every gear a bit smokey but white smokey . Timing belt ect was done by triple h and so was dizzy setup and timing. When i rebuild after machine work i set it back to all the previous markings
 
Think its the rings guys just done leak down and air coming from dip stick. Last time i done the test so much air was getting out throttle that it must have been drowning outair from dipstick now have tough choice of stripping down and rebuilding again or selling up as dont have garage to do rebuild will be gutted if she has to go
 
What you think its worth spec as follows.
122000km 76k ish in miles mot till oct just had head rebuild with recept black recaros hks racing suction kit apexi ecu new tegiwa dual core rad new wheel bearings mugen twin loop exhaust. Just had timing belt water pump ect done by triple h with recept. Needs the rings done and bits of body work to fin can send pics if you want
 
If the rear arches are starting to go and it needs an engine rebuild... I'll make you an offer if you are serious about selling it but It would reflect the work required. PM me if you decide you want rid of it man.
