Has anyone had any experience of using genuine gopro suction cup mounts on the outside of your car during track days or racing, rally's etc? Thinking of buying one and giving it a go want to know if there's any horror stories out there

i have one but not used it on the out side of car yet. not had a problem with it yet when using it on the inside some tracks can be a bit funny with them ive had to cabel tie the up just incase or they wouldnt let me use it

Was going to give it a try on drivers door and/or centre of roof might just have to bite the bullet and give it a go

I've got one, not used it for tracks but I can say that if mounted on the door it may pick up more vibration noise when you come to play back the video.
You can mount it on the front wing, I've found this a lot better and if you do it low close to the door it will give you a nice shot of the wheel.

Also if anyone didn't know, GoPro gives you some white rubber thing you can fit in between the gaps on the belt buckle style clips to reduce vibration.

Its also rated to 150mph if I remember correctly.

Have used mine in every type of weather. On the bumper, roof, window, doors. Never had a problem. Probably haven't gone over 120mph with it as the track is not very long on the straights. Just always clean the mounting area with a rag first. Never use any oily product to clean the area and you should never have a problem.

I think if you use the official one and clamp it on correctly you'll be fine. I've ran it just for road test and it was not bad! But that was my mate's until I got my own. I just use sticky pads stuck to the back of my bucket seat and a long arm to get a decent angle. Then of course a wee external mic to eliminate the crap echo type sound you get off the Gopro

from my experience this year-
tracks were funny about suction mounts before, but if you secured them with a cable tie they were fine.
Now they're saying that it isn't good enough so no suction mounts whatsoever. But you can use the 3m adhesive mounts you get with them.

I normally wait till toward the end of the day when stewards stop checking cars and just wave you out to stick mine on and never have an issue - i've got a track day sticker on my windscreen over where the suction mount goes too so you cant really see it!
