Hi guys/gals. I've got a problem with my UK DC2. When I'm in neutral or in any gear theres a noise that sounds like something is grinding/rumbling/rubbing. If I press down on the clutch it goes away but as soon as I lift my foot off, the noise happens again. The clutch bites quite well and doesnt judder/slip.

I haven't had the car long and Im not sure if the clutch is OEM or aftermarket. I've just changed the gearbox oil with Honda MTF and made sure that it is full by letting it leak out of the fill hole before screwing the bolt back in. Happened before and after the gearbox oil change. The gearbox is a standard s80 LSD box. Any advice please?

Thanks very much.

P.S: Is there a clutch cover plate on s80 gearboxs that allow you to take it off and tighten the pressure plate down with the gearbox bolted in? I havnt checked yet but I will do perhaps tomorrow.

It's probably gonna be a bearing on either end of the pinion shaft, input shaft or the diff bearings, not a big job as long as there is no other damage. I would recommend you get it looked into sooner rather than later!

Thanks for the reply mate. I will have to get it done in a garage as I havnt got access to ramps and I dont think Im competent enough to take a gearbox out. I was thinking of TGM. Heard a lot of good stuff about them.

It could potentially be the release bearing but doesn't sound like it! I'm from Ireland so can't give you guidance as to who to get to check it out!

Yes I thought it could be a release bearing too but it doesnt make sense since the problem only happens when my foot is off the clutch. I will try to get it checked out next weekend as I only use the car on weekends but tomorrow im driving the car to an exhaust fabricator to get a backbox from an EK civic refabricated to fit a dc2. I hope it holds out till then!

Did a bit of research just now and apparently ITR boxes have a common problem with the input shaft bearing going.

wow pretty much £18 without VAT.. Tegiwa are selling Honda ISB's at £45.. Thanks very much oifovo, but how do i check to see if the bearing fits an S80? Ill try and find out the dimensions of a S80 ISB quickly

Tegiwa states that their ISB is for b series transmissions. I'm assuming ALL b series transmissions. If ALL b series transmissions use the same bearing, I'm going to assume the link posted above for the S4C will fit S80 as well..

Any ideas where I can get a new ISB seal from?

Thanks guys, appreciate the help..

OEM Honda seems to be the only option in the UK... There are loads of quality aftermarket ones available in the US but I couldn't find any in the UK. They are listed on Lings website at £11 but I suspect it might be cheaper getting it from Honda, my local dealer is almost always cheaper than Lings and sometimes even cheaper than Tegiwa and other OEM part resellers. Part number is
91216-PH8-003 or
91216-PH8-005
It is the same seal but Honda used two different manufacturers (Arai and NOK) hence two different part numbers. All this info is for EK9 btw but I'm 99.9% positive DC2 will be the same.

Thanks again oifovo. Just to confirm is there two bearings on the input shaft? One either end right? If that's the case I may replace both at the same time

For anyone else looking for a input shaft bearing I've just called Honda and given them my reg number and confirmed that the input shaft bearing on a s80 is the same dimensions as the one in the link posted above. Thanks again everyone for the help. Booked in with TGM to carry out the work for me now. :)
