Race base

Race base was probably only just lighter than standard EK9 - remember that ABS, SRS, air con (?) were all optional so you could have easily bought a standard car that was very close in weight to the race base. My current car had no ABS or airbags for example. The only reason to buy a race base was to save money - or if you really hated the red interior. Interestingly as far as I know Subaru won't sell you a race base Impreza unless it is actually for racing, Honda seems to have taken a different route. These days race base - at least for me - is only worth it if it is either cheap or exceptionally clean (and I mean really really clean).

Again totally understand your point of view. I think knowing my example was so clean and the fact the racebase definitely came without the crap I didnt want - it made perfect sense to buy it.
Im good with cars but not that handy and big jobs alone, removing the parts manually would have been extra hassle. Makes sense to buy what you want out the box right?

One (odd) thing about my Racebase, the only extra it did come with was electric mirrors. Mine has manual windows, which I recently found out is actually heavier than the electric setup?

I like the fact upon me selling it if I ever do, it will be no different to of that when it left the factory in terms of its extras / features. The changes I will make will mostly be removable or not visible to he eye.

Anyone know if this is right? Apparently the race base or N1 could be got with this OEM intake pipe. I think I have read about it somewhere else too, although it seems a little crap for OEM.

The fact that the 2 halves of the duct are cable tied together would suggest it's just a bodged part from another honda

Looks like a tumble dryer ventilation hose.

I wouldn't buy into something you see on a random page from honda-tech too much. Although there is a wealth of knowledge on there, there is also a great deal of bullshit. Much like the rest of the Internet really...

Funnily enough I took a look at my Racebase last night and can see exactly what you are taking about in regards to the induction hose.

I will upload a pic when I get chance if you guys are really that interested?

Yes take a pic, :nice:

Curious, still looks like a diy thing to me tbh. Plus why would they route it around the exhaust manifold when there's a hole cut out specifically for air intake that takes cold air from behind the wheel arch liner?

Sounds like I should probably scrap the setup then and revert it back to standard? I will have a more detailed look tomorrow.
