Had a quick search but not finding what I'm after.

I'm asking these questions as a precaution and I may end up using a c4 as a stop gap while I build the block for the 3rd time should it fail on me again(won't give up on it!!)
Basically two questions.

Going rate for b18c4? that's just the engine.

And....

Max realistic revs with a b16b head on c4 bottom end?

My current map should run a c4 nicely but my Rev limiter is 8800rpm.
Will see the Nurburgring and the Rev limiter in 5th every lap so need a definitive YES I've done/do it everyday or NO.
Only needs to last 6months if that but I don't need it going in Germany! Lol

Nooooooooooooo :run:

I've got to be seriously unlucky for this next engine to have gremlins aswell, but if it does I want to have another engine in within acouple of weeks so im not missing any more track time.

WILL NOT MISS THIS RING TRIP!!!

There was a complete b18c4 for sale on crx uk for £300, however he broke it and sold the bottom end. If you keep an eye out on other forums you may get one cheap

I've seen a whole rotten aerodeck for sale on gumtree for 300 quid not long ago, some people want silly money for these engines tho...

I sold a jdm b18c non R for £400 last year. I guess it had added value as it was "JDM"... But I would probably pay £250 for a bare c4.

There are plenty of those mb6 thingys being broken. I'd look for the one in the best condition, and chuck some paper their way :run:

So Im looking at paying £250-£400 for a bare b18c4.
That's easily do able at short notice, I've seen loads of aerodecks breaking but as I'm not actually needing it yet I don't want to waste sellers time.

Just making sure I've got options incase the next build goes south aswell.

sorry for the offtopic, but why you're considering the possibility of break another engine???? will you build your engine with forged internals or keep oem???

The last build had forged internals, oil pump failed and had scores on the cylinder walls and Pistons. I'm building them myself so there is always a possibility that my build skills are lacking, paying someone else isn't going to happen, passing the buck won't teach me anything and from previous builds I've seen on here it still doesn't guarantee not having a problem with the engine.
This years track season is very important to me and I won't miss it because of engine issues.

Like your attitude Jesse, very much like you I'd rather spend money on equipment and correcting any potential mistakes than just giving the cash away. Unless it is something I know I can't do and could be dangerous (roll cage for example) I'll always rather try myself. Keep it up, it will work out sooner or later!

I did the roll cage on my last ek9 aswell, saved my buddy in the passenger seat big time!
I love the whole learning process of something as in depth as building an engine. The challenge really keeps me motivated.
I will keep at the engine building regardless but if this one fails I'll have a back up engine go in to keep me on track and keep downtime minimum.

I like your attitude mate, when we did things by ourselves the sense of accomplishment is greater and the experience that we aquire is something that we can only do if we get our hands dirty.... I wish you a great season ;)

Thanks buddy.
Law of averages says that if I keep building them. Eventually I'll get one that works!
I'm not expecting this next build to go wrong but I'm going to plan as if it is and then I'm ready for it.

Best attitude mate :)

Hopefully see you on track this or next year!!

For sure buddy!
I'm going to be stuck at brands for the next two trackdays this year.
An evening to test the new engine, then a full day there.
If it's still going then I'll look further afield to other tracks.
After watching btcc today I've got an itch for donnington park!

So max revs on a boosted c4 bottom end?
The last build revved out to 8800rpm so I'm wanting the same from a c4 if that's not too bad an idea?

Can't help you revs wise mate. Not yet anyway. But I picked up an aerodeck in reasonable shape for 450. No tax or mot but I reckon I'll get at least half that back selling any useful bits off it and a few quid for scrapping the rest.

When I did mine I bought a complete low mileage donor car for £700. FSH. Haven't been near a track yet so cannot comment on that but I plan to.lol. I know a handful of people that have and they been ok. Rev limit no more than 8500 to stay safe. I would fit a skunk2 pro inlet. Go for it.

I can get a good c4 engine if you get stuck.

I'll be using the ek9 head so no need to mess about with manifold etc.
I'll be honest I'm being cheap and want to use my current map on a c4 so that once the built block is rebuilt(assuming current build is bad aswell) I can just put the engine in and go.
The map should run a c4 easy enough but it's got a 8800rpm redline.
I'd need the revs because of my gearing..
How quickly could you get one at short notice? I'm hoping to be on track early June and if it goes then I'll want an engine soon as.
