The windscreen on my sir-s cracked in january and after months of searching I had to give up looking for a bronze tinted replacement, insurance company weren't really interested and honda told me the genuine part were discontinued so i had to settle for a blue tinted screen.

Got it fitted today and i hate it, i knew it would look different but its way too blue. Looking at it from the sides looks terrible, cant tell too much from the front but still, so gutted!

The only option i can think of is having a custom windscreen made which I dread to think how much would cost

Do ek9's come with bronze windows? Dont suppose this kind of thing has happened to anyone else on here?

Ek9 is slightly green?

See quite a few in Japan. Yahoo JP etc.. for about £70 plus auction fees and shipping. Although, I would hate to think what the shipping costs would be.

Have you tried contacting Honda Japan directly?

bronze windscreens for £70 + fees? I haven't contacted honda japan no, i assumed thats what honda did here, could be wrong though

Im based in mid wales mate

You might be in luck then man i was speaking to a guy in wales who was breaking an sir, think he sold all the glass apart from the windscreen

ah nice one, where can i find this guy? was the windscreen out of the car?

helping this guy today made me realize how little effort it takes to crack a windscreen

My mate had an sir and needed windscreen done bud. Insurance said no problem insured as an import and it's like for like but when auto glass turned up it was a blue uk screen they had. Auto glass guy said we can source you a JDM screen from Japan but the cost to do so would end up in your car being written off! That was about two years ago.

Screen has to be replaced like for like, tell your insurance to sort it out mate.

I told them it needed to be a bronze one and each time I phoned they said we'l transfer you to our glass department which was actually autowindscreens, they said they cant get them so my options were either blue or green.

Checked my phone one morning and had 17 missed calls from autowindscreens wondering if i wanted this blue screen or not when i was trying to source a bronze one, talk about pushy!

You reckon they were talking sh!t and i could of got a bronze one?

Did he have to accept the blue one? Makes me think they are available in Japan and the insurance company couldn't be arsed helping me get one

He just accepted the blue screen mate. Was worried that pushing the insurance for the bronze would end up making the car a cat d

That takes the piss, you pay insurance for a reason, not to be mugged off when the time comes that you need them.

Anyone know how i can contact honda japan? Cant find any way of doing so, even google cant find me a email address

How is that taking a piss? If the cost of getting a new screen approaches value of the car it's a clear write off!

But surely a windscreen wouldn't approach the cost of a genuine eg6 sir?!

I had to fight a claim on mine years ago as they tried telling me it was worth £600, shows they dont know the value of a rare car

Just checked the website and its obviously in japanese, this isnt guna be easy!

Any idea how its best to contact them?

I got some parts directly from them years ago. I'll try and dig up the email that I used. If not, I have also used RHDJapan to contact main dealers and bought the parts through them.

Insurance companies don't usually look at it like that though. They just see 1992 civic 1.6. Which to your average person would be worth a couple of hundred.

This is true. My trade insurer laughed when I said my ek9 was worth 5k+. To them it's just a civic, an old civic.

Ive just had a email back from autoglass and they reckon they can get me a bronze windscreen and they mention they replace like for like

My insurance company used autowinscreens who told me bronze windscreens were unavailable, and my insurance renewal is due tomorrow ( 21st april ). I feel like ive been let down by both the insurance company and autowindscreens if autoglass can infact replace it for a bronze one

Anyone know if i can do anything about this? If my insurance wasn't running out tomorrow id feel i had a better chance at sorting this out

Tell your insurance you want the car exactly back to how it was in the first place. I used to work for autoglass so argue it mate as your insurance is just taking the easy way out. Do you have a glass limit on your policy? This may make the bronze screen more expensive and your insurance have done it the cheapest way.

In the policy it says...

"If the repair is carried out by one of our approved suppliers cover is unlimited"

But then in the "Whats not covered section" it says...

"The cost of importing parts or storage costs caused by delays where the parts are not available from stock within the territorial limits"

Agreed they will always try and find the easy way out!

Ridiculous! Insurance company told me on the phone that import insurance is cheaper because if you have an accident it is more expencive to get parts for them. Then they turn around and give you uk parts. Why charge silly prices if there going to fix it with uk parts anyway.
Id be on the phone to them letting them know how I feel anyway.
