First turbo build...

Just come up guys been offered a b18c4 block and internals for a good price. Apparently 80k on it. Would the b16b head work with the c4 bottom end? Plan would be to go for forged pistons/rods new bearings. Might be more trouble than it's worth?

It bolts straight up. If you are going to rebuild it then the mileage is irrelevant. Will gain you more power over the b16b and a bucketful of torque. As the saying goes "no replacement for displacement"
Mind you I kept the b16a.

Depends on the value marked down. I'll try dig out the paperwork. Another bit of advice, keep all documents/invoices in a folder lol. Off my head though as reference I bought around £450 worth of stuff from Mfactory and paid £78 import fee's.

my kit came to about £3k with clutch, map sensor and boost solenoid and I paid about £360 import fees on that. also paid $400 shipping fees, extortionate!

they offered me a $25 dollar discount when I questioned the shipping fees lol yay -_-

like I said, I'd source the bits separately now if I did it again.

I was looking at getting some other bits from Go Autoworks but the more I spend with them the bigger tax sting when it arrives. Just trying to find a balance to get the right deal on the right stuff. It will cost what it costs in the end. Just can't wait to get started!

Nah mines at 350 and it's fine. Pretty sure stock sleeves are good for 400-450 without any support.

Ok so Picking up B18c4 block and crank tomorrow... will order pistons and rods once it's been measured, if it needs machining Ive been told to take the block, crank, pistons and rods to engine builder so they can machine to correct specs for parts supplied? Any advise on this?

Looking at realstreet performance and I'd like to go for JE 9.0:1 pistons with Eagle H rods. Does this sound ok? Compression Ratio too low for what I'm aiming for? About 300hp.

You not wanting any more than 300? Ever?
I'd want higher compression of your staying that low.
I'm Nearly 10.0-1.

No I mean just for now I'm not aiming for huge numbers, 300 sounds good, more would be great. So would you recommend higher comp pistons?

You mean your going to build a block for now, then build another for more power later?
Sit down with yourself and think about what you want in the end. Not for now.
Then we can help you.

That was the original plan to use the stock b16b but I've got hold of a b18c4 for a decent price.

So the plan now is to use the go autoworks pro kit, gt2860rs, 44mm tial wastegate, 3inch down pipe and exhaust, B18c4 block and crank with standard sleeves, forged pistons and rods and b16b head, arp head studs etc. I don't really have a hp figure that means anything because I haven't done this before so it's hard to put a number to it. So if I say 300 and build it this way it might be capable of 400 if that makes sense?

In the end will it not make the most power it can safely make when tuned?

Apologies if I'm confusing people... need all the help I can get.

your using a Gt2860rs so you can make what 330-360hp? I'm not sure what the max that turbo will pull out, I had 330 out of one on an astra.
9-1 will work fine but I'd go higher of it was me.
Like I said mines 350 and I'm almost 10-1 and i can go much more power on it yet.
Personally I'd reserve 9-1 for real high hp numbers with a larger turbo than gt28, like 500hp gt30+.
This is all imo as I have no real experince past my own setup so...

Your experience is a lot more than mine man so I appreciate your opinion. 10:1 sounds good to me...

I use wiseco Pistons and manley rods. No complaints about them at all. I've heard the piston pin hole (small end) can be abit tight on the eagle rods but again I've no proof myself and plenty run them just fine.

Wiseco and eagle here. No complaints and they fitted together just fine.
In my b16 I used 9.5 iirc. was pretty responsive off boost.
