dc2 4.7FD into s4c problems

Has to be the final drive then.. if your box has the standard EK9 LSD and ring gear but the 4.78 you have has a smaller ID then it can't be an oem 98 DC2 Final drive?

If it was fitted in an s80 lsd and its a 4.78fd what else could it be?
@Karleg6 do you know the history on the box you took it out of? Wasnt a 96 spec s80 with an aftermarket FD?

DC2 oem diff is identical to EK9 oem diff.
The box it came out of had to have either an open diff or an aftermarket diff fitted

Have you got both ring gears side by side?
If there's any markings on the 4.4 that's Defo oem then you'd expect the 4.7 to have markings in the same place.
Rest your 4.4 gear ontop of the 4.7 one and see if the PCD of the holes are the same? Can't remember 100% but I think the non LSD boxes had a different PCD aswell as a smaller ID on the ring gear.

Nothing to say that the s80 box had an aftermarket diff at one point and this was then swapped out for whatever reason.
A picture of the diff the gear came off of might be useful?

I have mfactory 4.9 fd in front of me for a type R box, I'm going to measure the inside diameter
EDIT - I measured 117mm inside diameter, if your 4.7 is smaller I'd say it's for a non-type R box

All evidence so far points at the ring gear being aftermarket.
Fits a 4.4 without modification
Wrong ID for standard type R lsd

On route for some pictures, hopefully the seller can get a pic of his diff so it can be sorted asap

What ever it's from it does not fit a oem type r lsd, which are the same through out all years.

If the first gear is the same as a s4c first gear it's not oem.

I would advise trying to get your money back as its not what you were told it was and its not going to be any use to you unless you get the diff the final drive used to be on

The 4.7 ring gear is measuring 110mm inside diameter, what is this 4.7 for? If i machined the inside diameter to 117mm would it work?

Check the Pattern of the holes first before you go machining it.

Personally I wouldn't machine it, there's no way of knowing how it's been designed etc. Just return it to the seller as it clearly doesn't match description and get the correct fd

How can i find out what this final drive fits? There are absolutely no Markings on the ring gear!

I bet it fits non-lsd s4c boxes (so ek4) it is the only possible explanation if it is otherwise identical to your current fd. Will the seller not take it back? Let them worry about it? You'll need either an open diff from ek4 (useless and a big downgrade imho) or a lsd designed for ek4 if you want to use it

As above. Best guess is aftermarket final drive for ek4.
Just send it back mate, sounds like the seller was told the gearbox was s80 but it wasn't, Either that or we've all missed a trick with the LSDs being slightly different(highly doubt it)

The seller says he took it out of his s80 himself and it had a honda diff in it, does an s80 only come in type r dc2s?or is there an sir s80 that would have a smaller diff?

Not that I'm aware of but I guess it's a possibility.

Any chance you could get a picture of the diff? How does the seller know it was a s80 box? Either your box or sellers box is not what you/him think it is. It's not just the size of the main gear it's also the fact your first gear fitted the new shaft which it shouldn't have

Something's Defo not right in one of the boxes.
