Which OIL recommended for the B16b

Unfortunately in my country i don't have any company who does car oil analysis.

Anyways the best oil imo is the one that with uprated valve springs i can take the valve cover off, after seeing some trackdays abuse, and look at the camshafts and rocker arms and see no wear at all.

The Motul 300v like i said is new for me and i can't talk much about, but the Fuchs race did that and is indeed a very good oil.

I use competition millers 5w 40 fully synthetic and has been great. Never burn a drop of oil! Description on opie oils website says its recommended for high revving engines so am happy! :)

Amsoil signature series.

Never burnt a drop of oil even on the race track. Its the only thing ive used that does this. Everything else burns after a track day.

i was using ams oil 10w40 oil for past 5 years
but now since i'm using my car less and for small distance
is it good idea switching to 5w30 redline oil ?
that change in oil viscosity going to a thinner oil wear the engine more ?

Hi

I would probably go for a 5w-40, but there shouldn't be any issue with a 5w-30 if the car is just used for short trips.

Castrol edge 10 60w it's a good oil for a b16/18? I used on track day

Hi

It's a good oil, but not for Honda engines, it's too thick. Have a look at this.

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic as the best option.

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

honda recommends API SG/SJ certification oils.
i read that newer certification API like SM oils are more eco friendly oils and can wear more old engines like b16b since these oils have less zddp.
is that something to worry about ?

It's only API SM and SN that have reduced ZDDP levels, but too much attention is paid to ZDDP sometimes. Yes, it helps but there are other things in the oil that help too. Unfortunately, for some reason ZDDP is the thing that gets mentioned all the time and I'm not sure why. Some American companies sell what are basically rubbish oils, but with very high ZDDP levels (high enough to be harmful), then sell them as though they are top end race oils.

If you want the best oil, go for the ester based race-quality oils as they have a high (but not too high, about 1400ppm) ZDDP level, an ester content and the rest of the oil is a proper PAO synthetic, so they are very good.

thanks for the info oilman !
why not an oil that is 100% ester ?
can i use a pure race oil like 300v on the street ?
i change oil every 3.000-4.000km or 6-8 months/year.

Motul 300v is completely fine for your carand can be used for road use or track use. Motul market it for track use as they have many other oils they market for road use, but so many of our customers use it on the road. With an oil like the Motul 300v you don't need to change it every 3,000-4,000km we would recommend the full 10,000miles or 12 months, which ever comes first.

Just had a good read of this. Top info from Oilman as usual. Has helped me choose a new brand of oil to put into the nine.

How is this not a sticky!?

300V is recommended by my buddy over on VX220.org who works for a company that develop additives that go into all of these oils. As they do not market any oils he is also pretty unbiased.

This thread (link below) is worth a read if you want to know more detailed info about oil, there is much speculation in this [ek9.org] thread as a whole. Mostly what Fez and Oilman suggest is similar:-

Fez definitely knows his stuff, a very good person to advise on oils and he's right, the 300V is a top oil.

Motul 8100 Xcess would be the best bang for money for me.
Engine runs incredibly smooth and very light oil consumption after months of use.
