How to restore and clean headlight clarity

Any of you guys tried using toothpaste? Doesn't work as well as an actual polish but it definitely clears up the oxidization a fair bit

this is indeed an easy fix, but keep in mind it will only last if you put a new clear coat on it

preferably one that is UV protective

my advice, buy new ones, just get EDM ones from honda and swap over the lenses

I done a mates Evo headlights for him as his uv protection had broken down and ended up yellow like this

After 3 stages of sanding and then 2 stages of polishing they ended up like this :)

A great and cheap upgrade for anyone with a spare hour or two :)

Be sure to seal your work with a good sealant/wax that has uv protection properties and if useing a rotary keep the pad moving due to heat build up :)

Tnx for the video. I am using Turtle Headlight wax and that seems to be a good compound as well. The only thing is that after couple of months they go back to same :(

My headlights are finally off the car. Gotta do this before puttin them bak on. Thanks for the diy! :nice:

I've always done this by hand at first, keeping the lights on the car but taping around the edges with blue tape so as not to sand any of the paint.
Depending on the how badly oxidized or encrusted the lights were, I start by wet-sanding using an 800 grit, working my way up through the grits to 1000, 1500, and 2000, all by hand. Takes probably a half hour for it to come out right, just for the sanding part.

Then I use an electric buffer, starting with 3M Protect-It buffing compound and foam buffing wheel, and then using the 3M Protect-It polishing compound with a foam polishing wheel. Then some protective wax.
Using a buffer for the final stages saves a lot of time.

Used the 3M kit on the EK9, worked great. Also had enough materials to do the daily Vauxhall too!!
