Saint Matt's EK9 - R999 CTR

Epic ek9 mate didn't realize as well you owned that "k20 yo" itr beast I know the bloke who owns it now still mint looking though ;)

Cheers :) Yep I built K20 YO up from a shell, sold it to a local lad in December :)

This weekend I fitted HEL braided lines, flushed the system with RBF600, also fitted a Tegiwa master cylinder stopper, so the car's pretty much done for the time being :) I will baffle the sump at some point but that's it.

Gave the car a shakedown at Donington on Thursday night,

Really pleased with it, although I did find out that the front pads are only standard items and so they melted before the night was done. DS2500s fitted, all bedded in and ready for Japfest tomorrow :) Should be on the afternoon 1-5pm session so keep an eye out if you're going!

awesome progress, I wish I had the guts to strip mine out that far haha

Another few weeks have passed and there's been some changes. Mainly, I wanted (needed) more go so there's no engine in it :D

In the daily ready to be shipped out.

And I went over to a friends whose Accord Type R had someone smash into the back of it. So we liberated the engine which is now sat in my garage :D

I've ordered a QSD H2B kit so I will be using my old gearbox and loom. I've got an OBD2A dizzy coming and ordered some goodies off Spirit9 which turned up super quick!

As well as more power I will be getting more serious with the weight loss, so cut panels, gutted dash and plastic windows are the order of the day!

that will be one hell of a blast mate. gonna keep an eye on this.

Progress will be a bit slow, we had our first child (baby boy! win!) 3 weeks ago, he seems a bit needy so its limiting my garage time lol.

I've now wired it all up, really happy with how it went, just use the B16B engine loom and extend the alternator, and swap a few plugs which are mostly the same colour wires anyway. I've used a Prelude dizzy as it uses the same plug as the B16b, I've also just cut the balance shaft belt for now, will remove them properly at some point. Definitely a lot easier than a K swap so far, even though they're not exactly difficult! Here is is all wired up, I still have the IACV to put on when the new gasket arrives, and the EGR delete too.

The QSD kit is arriving tomorrow so I might even get the clutch and gearbox etc mounted up this week, we'll see. I still need to get a Euro-R pulley and an exhaust manifold, but in fairness I can fit those after the engine is in the car, so I may just fit it in first as I am impatient and the garage could do with one less engine in it taking up space :D

Time for an update, progress has been slow unfortunately, if it's not my family it's customers cars haha. Here was my drive on Sunday, always work to be done on EK9s it seems at the moment!

Anyway, I've got the H22 all done and wired up, the manifold is here the Euro R crank pulley I need is too. But then I decided that I was going to do things properly the first time round, so I decided to get rid of the balance shafts properly to start with. For those that don't know, you can't just remove the shafts without blocking off the oil supply to the shafts, as this would severely reduce oil pressure, not good. So I bought a balance shaft delete kit from Performance Autoworks and set about fitting it.

Here's some pics of the progress

Now, at this point after speaking to Rich at Performance Autoworks he told me to knock out the bearings for the shafts, turn them around, and then knock them back in. This is because they have an offset hole to supply oil, so turning them around blocks the hole up. Unfortunately I found this easier said than done, and after 130k miles or whatever this engine has done the bearings would not come out without destroying them. No doubt there's a knack to this which I don't have haha. So I had to knock solid dowels into the crank girdle to block these off. This is what the Kaizenspeed kit does from America, but for twice the price I paid.

Main caps off :nerv:

Longest tap ever to plug the oil feed for the shafts. Obviously made sure the inside of this was immaculate after tapping it, then screwed in a loctited plug.

Put all that back together, it was nice to see the shells and crank were all immaculate.

Pressed the plugs into the oil pump with some Hondabond

And then my Moroso sump arrived, 'spensive one from QSD.

So this is all this shite removed from the balance shafts, I will weigh it but I guess it's around 4-5kg.

I've also been buying weight saving stuff, I have a none ABS prop valve coming from Eternal on here, got the lines made up at work and these arrived last week.

I also have a Skunk2 Alpha 70mm throttle body and a set of Skunk2 adjustable cam gears. I'm going to get the manifold off and opened out to 70mm to match at work, and trim the cam cover for the gears too. These should see it crack 230bhp with a decent exhaust.

Just need to hit it hard one weekend and it might even run!
