Problem exhaust fitting

Attempted to fit my exhaust today along with my Skunk2 header.

Header went on fine & is really great.

However, I came to do the exhaust and found that things didn't fit right. It seems that the Skunk2 header is about 2" longer and the OEM header.

I also have a resonated decat but it's a JDM DC2 Integra one. Is the EK9's decat shorter than the DC2?

Either way, something is throwing the whole thing out by a few inches so that the exhaust is pushed in all shapes, the rubbers on the hangers are hanging wrong, the exhaust was actually touching the fuel tank and all the heat shields and the backbox was being pushed up into the bumper.

All caused by the extra length on either the header or the decat or both...

Anyone else ever had this trouble?

If im not mistaken the header is supposed to be used with skunk2 high flow cat converter in order to fit properly...
If im wrong please correct me...

If you've got a decat then you could just cut 2inch off that and weld it back together?

Really? I wasnt informed of this... I thought any JDM decat would fit :S

I could do that Jesse but had no facility for welding today so I'm looking to see if anyone has any info

I can only find a 2.25 inch Skunk2 which is for UK spec...

Anyone else got any info?

The S2 are for USDM and hence the same length as a dc2 or ek4.
You need a 2.5" JDM header then it will all fit.
Dunx

Ah... Ok. So USDM header is longer? Suppose I could just get a decat made

I would get the header collector pipe shortened,
Otherwise you won't be able to fit a cat for mot

MOT isn't a problem ;) I will just have to fit a shorter cat pipe I think

Will just chop the decat pipe down I think & weld the flange back on.

I was interested if the JDM dc2 & ek9 decats are different lengths but I don't think they are.

Yeah im pretty sure they are the same length between ek9 and dc2.
Chopping the decat has got to be the best method tbh. They are what £35?

Yeah that's what I concluded! Not going to start chopping an expensive manifold or exhaust lol. Decat every time! Just weld the flange back on and be away hopefully :D

I just wanted to know if it was an error in buying the wrong decat or something

Chopped the decat, welded the flanges back on, job done :D

Good to hear,
Simple solution really.

Yeah I'm all in for subtle exhausts.
Although I do have a screamer pipe, it's not THAT loud lol

Haha yeah I am now! Lol screamer pipe that doesn't scream too loud, win!

Although I can't help but think this 5zigen might be restrictive... :(

Since putting it on, I hit VTEC and the car seems to take longer to climb through the revs up to top end & then change. Before it used to climb so fast and freely, now it doesn't appear to rev as freely at all.. Might be forced to change it again. It's not labouring but doesn't seem as quick through the revs!

Interesting, what exhaust did you have before? Personally I've never felt the difference an exhaust mod makes on any N/A car. Felt it once going from 2.25inch to 3" on a high hp astra turbo, but that's it lol

I haven't either until now.. Or maybe it isn't different.

Before it was some custom jobby with crush bends and all that. Came with the car. It was pretty loud & very boomy. Which suggested it was fairly free flowing.

Change to the 5zigen which has more resonators, is quieter etc. and does seem to rev slower.

Perhaps it's just me because its quieter it doesn't feel as fast maybe. But you would think by fitting a 4-2-1 mani, decat & cat back that it would be better. I don't know haha. Might be just a placebo.

Yeah perhaps. With less noise as you say.
