B18C EK9 owners - Any Regrets??

as said above really, no regrets at all, much more power lower down and pulls harder, vtec crossover isnt as harsh but if you plan on gettin it mapped it will be a smooth crossover anyway !! get it done !!

Who wouldnt - why have you turbo'd yours if you didnt want extra power???

The B18 loves to be thrashed too - the plus side is with the B18C your going faster which is more fun.

The B18C revs as high as the B16b - its not about the RPM limit though its about when the engine makes its peak power.

B18C makes all of its power around 8000 and the b16b around 8200 - i mean 200rpm of a difference, can you really feel that? i mean considering with the b18c your already using alot more power before the b16b does.

The best sounding honda engine ive heard is Spoons ITR, high revving short geared. Screams more than the B16b.

Never known anyone who would think having more power (not stupid amounts) is not more fun.

That was just my opinion from my experience of both engines ! ! ! I know theres 1000s of people that prefer the b18c to the B16b that will all probably agree with you i dont give a ****. I was just saying what i liked about the b16b (not everyone thinks like you and has the same taste as you, you know).

The reason i turbo'd mine has nothink at all to do with this. Yeh i wanted more power and to be a bit different and build a turbo b16b not b18c or b16a.
My post was more to open things up a bit and not be aimed at myself !

Why would I regret it?

Engine cost me the same as I sold the B16B.
Power is up
Torque is up
Drivability is up

The only reason I can imagine people 'prefer' the B16B over the B18C is due to the power delivery. Because the B16B feels pretty much dead before VTEC, it has a big kick up the ass once VTEC is engaged. There is still a kick from the B18C but not as much..or doesnt feel as much because you are already have access to more torque.

How can an engine that is basically the same as the B16B be worse with more torque, power and 200cc?

But anyway..I'm selling my EK9 so if you want to drive it before I sell it then be quick..or just buy it LOL

Need to get a diesel...my Jap import days are over for now :(

Is that assuming that everyone is just after the power i take it ? I prefer the B16B to the B18C anyday of the week. I just love the short stoke charicteristics what the engine has. How it just loves having the complete f*#k thrashed out of it. The sound of it can not be beaten by any other Honda engine out there in my eye's (apart from F1). I just use to love the way how it would scream its bonnet off when those rev's where sky high. This is what makes the B16B what it is to me.

I'v owned a B18C before and dont get me wrong there is a nice bit of power extra power and its a cool build to. But it just didn't seem as much fun to drive to me.

Hey Rich. Did you notice much difference going from a stock b18c to a fully built b18c? Or were you still not impressed?.
b16b turbo was my first choice. But like I said, insuring a ek9 is pretty much impossible for me i.e. crazy quotes.
So thats why b18c seems to be the next best thing:nice:

Hey mate, how you doin :) ? It wernt that i wasnt impressed with the power because it was right rocket. Go for it if thats what you've got your heart set on i'm sure you'll love it. There was a nice bit of extra power from stock to fully built. I'm just a big fan of the b16b thats all lol....

DO IT DO IT DO IT! Apart from mine being the first 2 stroke and only 2 stroke B18C that honda made i love it!

Some people like that you have to make a B16B work harder and they like that the difference between low cam profile and high cam profile is relatively bigger than with the B18. But if it's about speed, B18C all the way.

Jeez Louise, roll the sleeves back down.

Was just replying to your post with my opinions, is that not what forums are for?

Never said everyone thinks like me or has the same opinions i'd just like to see why people prefer it over a greater power motor with similar characteristics and thats the points and questions i was quoting you with.

Funny thing is, you can always take a B18C and make the low-cam profile fueling too rich (obviously you shouldn't overdo it :D ) and the high-cam profiling just right so you get the same character as a B16b since you'll lose power when not on VTEC. And then a huge kick when you enter VTEC. And still have the extra power and potential from a B18C :D

There isnt enough difference in feel to justify just how much more power you get. Even if you prefer the B16B a bit more, its not worth choosing unless your in a set class for rallying or you really didnt care about the power of the car.

If you had 2 engines sitting right in front of you and you could pick which one to throw into the car, I dont believe anyone would go for the B16B IMO even if you say you prefer the B16B. Its just if you have a B16B some cant be bothered to change and are happy enough with B16B. But once you've gone B18C, you really will NOT look back.

A B16B turbo is a completely different story to a B18C N/A, Not comparable in any way.

agree 100%!

I have never owned a B18C before but I drove an ek9 with a
B18C and had a couple of shots of my mates integra and yes it was quicker but no where near as fun! there was hardly a vtec cross-over. The aggressive cross-over is what attracts me and keeps me loving the B16B. If I wanted more torque I could drive my brothers BMW 330ci or 350Z or my mates subaru impreza but they are not as much fun as the B16B. Even they admit that themselves. Even the integra owner does. I dont care much about going and saying I want to beat this car and that car I just enjoy driving my ek9 with the B16B coz its bags of fun!!:nice::clap: not saying the B18C aint just think the B16B is more fun!lol

I have had tons of chances to put a B18C in my ek9 but I just decided to get the Mfactory 4.9 FD and its even better now!!:nice:

what about just stroking the B16B? will you still get a similar crossover?

I cant get myself around the more fun part. I can accept preferences completely but these 2 engines are far too similar only one with more power. The B16B with a spoon ECU has a really smooth changeover, I used to have one. Its not the engine, its the map. You can map both engines to feel more aggressive or smooth.

And a subaru/BMW/350Z etc etc, they are MUCH more torquey then a B18C too. Your not changing your car dramatically, your just adding power and a bit more low down grunt. I dont think that was a great comparison.

If its that ever so slightly more sudden kick on crossover that your into(as thats the only difference on stock maps) and dont care at all about having a faster more competitive car then fair enough. Other then that its soo soo wrong to say a B16B is more fun. As i dont think that makes much sense as they are essentially the same engines.

Hope i dont offend anyone, thats not the intention. Im just voicing my opinion, strongly.

And im strongly agreeing with you !

To me it would be like someone with a VTi saying they prefer the B16A2 to a B16B or B18C

yes you have offended me ! how the hell can you say that....... haha na not really dont give a ****, they are both a hoot to drive yeah some people say the extra torque from the 18 is nice and rightly so but see what rambo is saying the 16b is a great engine and as we know pretty much the best 16na engine to date :naughty: and with the vtec cross being as savage as it is makes it highly addictive, it comes down to a personal opinion we could rant and rant till the end of time but the fact is some people prefer the 16... some the 18 :D
