brake fluid?

3 bottles should do it nicely. What bleeding method are you using? Also i used some cheap fluid to push through the old stuff... Just a cheap 500ml bottle.

my mechanic will be doing it, he normally does everything really cheap for me.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but did you just bleed a lot of fluid from each caliper (corner) whilst topping up the resevoir in order to get all the old fluid out Ian?

Gotta do this before the ring but have still not quite fathomed the procedure...

comes to about £50 with delivery for 3 bottles (used my discount) is this normal? didn't think it was so expensive, but if thats what it needs i'll just get it.

Yes mate normally untill the fluid runs clear but use the cheap fluid to do this.

Tidyneil is would get the recommended ammount he should be able to get it spot on with that. I've actually had to buy another bottle cause having problems getting my Spoons feeling right.

I called Tom at TGM the other day. Gave me some sound advice and some tips and pointers when bleeding.

Basically

Pump pedal 6 times, on the 6th pump hold it down.

Release nipple

Pedal will drop

Lock nipple

Allow pedal to come back up

Repeat 2-3 times per caliper if bubbles still persist continue.

Left rear

Right rear

i hate to be a pain but wouldnt normal dot 4 fluid do? i know the motul stuff will be way better but apart from the 'ring' my car will just be a daily drive, its £7 for 1 litre.

I don't know enough about it to really comment. All i know is on track your brakes get hot, you need a good fluid to prevent it boiling. If it boils it ends up with water in it. Equals spungy pedal and another fluid change. I always use the best fluids i can. Sometimes that means paying a small premium.

Look at it this way even if you only change it once a year if you pay £40 for all your fluid inc the cheap stuff thats only 10p a day to have your brakes tip top!

Just my opinion and logic. :p

You can use normal DOT4 for daily. For serious driving is RBF600 the best choice, since it is still dot4 and have the same/better boiling point then DOT 5.1 specification fluids, which can be agressive to seals etc. Thats why you should run dot3/dot4. It is enough to change it once per 2 years.

Thank you :nice:

yeah i'll go for the motul then, cheers.

Good lad :nice:

it wont be this week but i'll do it when i get my yellowstuff's

use a little tube (windshield sprayer hose) & a soda bottle that is clean!
start bleeding in this order:
rear passenger, rear driver, front passenger, then front driver...
I do mine like this..(with a friend)
loosen the 10mm bleeder while your friend pumps the brake (slowly to the bottom) 5 times but have him hold the pedal on the 5th press! at the same time you tighten the 10mm bleeder valve.
you should see the fluid kind of spray or spit out. Continue this process 3 times on each caliper until you get a strong spray of brake fluid! But also make sure you keep your eye on the fluid level in the reservoir. . (use the same brake fluid in the bottle you use to refill the reservoir ....

Because yours is american lh drive is it not? You work furthest away from the master cylinder untill you get closest. If that makes sense?
