Now i've got a bit of spare time, I thought I would put up a quick post showing how my ghetto rear diffuser was made.

In brief, first we made all the necessary mounting brackets for the mock-up diffuser, then lowered the fuel tank so the diffuser ran flat from the tank past the rear subframe/lca's, then upwards to the rear bumper. To be able to use a wider diffuser, we custom made a rear silencer so it sat higher and further across than the stock item, and added a slightly different tail pipe just to be different.
Then it was time to fit the diffuser, and add the fins and side pieces one by one until all was done. The rear arch areas and the gaps between the diffuser and bumper were also box'd off to stop any unwanted air from getting behind the rear bumper

A quick coat of matt black paint and hey presto, a Ghetto rear diffuser!!! :nice:

Big thanks to Richy at Performance Autoworks who did all the hard work and created a cracking bit of Aero....top man

Mate

Good Effort, i bought one that Dixon Sells and it was Shite, that looks brilliant though and more importantly purposeful!

Yeah I wasnt impressed with the one Dixon was selling as it didnt really look like it would do a great deal, so decided on a custom one that was made to fit. Ok time wise there was a lot of hours that went into re-welding the exhaust and measuring/cutting etc but the end result was worth it for sure :nice:

The rear silencer WAS a perfectly good BuddyClub Spec IV, but we had to chop both ends off to make it fit so went for a different tail pipe to try and get away from the usual styles found on Jap cars.....mine looked to big anyway and didnt really suit a race car!

good work, huge negative on our ek's is the rear bumper, more of an air brake than bumper

you think its worth putting few holes or slits in your bumper in specific areas as well kris ?

My rear bumper is completely box'd off so there is no way for any air to get in there at all. The rear inner arches were extended down to the same height of the rear bumper, then a floor piece added to go from the outer edge of the diffuser to the corner of the rear bumper on each side. Bit hard to explain but like you say, the rear bumper is like a big parachutte so it needed blocking off

Let us know how it performs on track, do you reckon it will make any difference?

Yep, I raced at Cadwell 3 weeks ago and won my class in both races (3rd overall), and was only 0.5 seconds a lap slower than the 500bhp RX7 that is 2 classes above!

looks amazing mate and well made. i presume its made from aluminium ?

i hate the fact i cant get cars into my work because i could make so much stuff like this if i could mesure it up!

That's brilliant :D which class are you in?

I'm in GT250 so limited to 250bhp, and the car must be no lighter than 1010kg at the end of the race with driver and fuel

I've stayed faithfull and run a forged B18, but all the other Hondas in my class have gone K20 strokers :((

I did get 260.4bhp and 162ft/lb torque when the engine was built so mapped it for 250bhp to stay in the lower class, and it seems the K20 boys have opted for mapping their cars for GT250 aswell instead of going for GT300 to keep me busy :D

I LOVE IT I LOVE IT!!!

Group buy? I also want your front diffuser!!!

What a car!

Looks lovely...but wouldn't this pose problems with speed bumps on a street car? If no, I would also like 1 :D
