ok like it says, i want to know your thoughts and opinions on turbocharging a stock b16b, what do you think of its compression ratio in relation to boost? i am in the process of turbocharging mine and will give a full review when its done but i want your thoughts and opinions regardless.

EDIT: just added a list of parts used below.

-meutek turbo manifold (flat black ceramic coated) from www.meutek.com
-turbonetics ball bearing t3/t04e turbo from RaceSpecialists.com (flat black ceramic coated)
-custom 3" v-band downpipe (flat black ceramic coated)
-KMS-FAB 5-bolt to v-band adapter
-custom intercooler piping (flat black ceramic coated)
-PWR intercooler
-greddy type RS bov from RaceSpecialists.com
-Tial 38mm wastegate with custom extension neck and dump tube (flat black ceramic coated)
-AEM EMS stand alone engine management system with build in uego
-AEM serial data gauge
-ARP head studs
-3" exhaust
-greddy oil block adapter
-greddy oil catch can
-spal slim fan
-aftermarket 2" radiator
-750cc RC fuel injectors
-walboro fuel pump
-NGK BKR7EIX iridium spark plugs
-stock head gasket
-stock exhuast manifold gasket
-hondata intake manifold gasket
-ACL rod/main bearings (engine needed fresh bearings due to accidental over-rev)

average cost for this type of setup is $7000+ USD, i work at a shop so i got a lot of great deals and i used some used parts, my total cost was $4400 so far plus the $600 i spent on new rod/main bearings since mine were shot brings me to $5000 so far. it could be done for A LOT less but i added a LOT of extra stuff, like the ball bearing turbo, all the ceramic coatings, all the custom fabricated parts, and my choice of engine management was an expensive one also.

im sure im forgetting something, ill post pics of the ceramic coated stuff when it gets back from the shop that does our coating.

EDIT: list has been updated to show current parts since a lot of stuff got lost in transit.

all custom/fabrication work and tuning done by MEHRAZ at teamD motorsports Team D Motorsports

the setup below blew up, it was later rebuilt with a b16a shortblock stuffed with 81.5mm PR4 pistons, 3 alge vlave job and new bearings and made 317whp and 240wtq at 15psi

well the turbonetics turbo let go so i got a new turbo and some other parts you can see below, with this new set up im now making 333whp and 260wtq at 12psi.
-gt3076r turbo
-Tial 44mm wastegate
-new 3" downpipe
-new equal length manifold
-apexi GT spec intercooler
and the new setup:

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

please please dont, i dont know much about turbos, but i know they dont work all that great with high conpression (or they dont work as well) thus to get lower conpression you would end up replacing all the parts that make the 6b so good in the 1st place!

All imo naturaly!

the engine will remain stock, i am not going to change anything and i believe if people can turbo an s2000 or an ITR with there 11:1 cr then why cant i do my ctr with 10.8:1 cr? im just working on making a good motor even better. and turbos love high cr it makes the turbo spool faster its just harder to tune and more prone to detination, if i did want to lower the comp i would just get a thick head gasket so i would retain all the internals and even if i did swap the pistons and rods for forged units im still keeping the strong parts of the b16b which is its awesome head, balanced crank, and excellent RS ratio. i think stroking it is more rape than what im doing... thoughts?

not really, the 1.8l spoon stroker was mede for it!! ha ha unreal when its installed

im not saying the stroker kit is bad, but chris gee was saying i should keep the positive aspects of the b16b what it is, by stroking it you destroy its RS ratio and increase side loading and wear on the cylinder sleeves. you reduce your rs ration from 1.84 to about 1.54, thats a major difference.

hmmmm, i personally think that installing a turbo to this motors its like playing with fire, everything can go ok, or everything can go wrong.

For what are you planning to use your car? For drag racing i think its a good setup.

I think you should build another motor, and leave the b16b in your garage :)

I really dont know much about turbos on honda engines, but as spoonctr said, in my opinion you should build another motor and leave the b16b n/a :)

By the way, check out this video, you will see the power of an ek9 TURBO

If you use the spoon stroker kit, you will have a ITR motor 200 hp , + 10 lbs of more torque  also, a safe motor

you are correct it is easy to blow up a b16b on a bad tune, but im in southern california and we have some of the worlds best na/turbo tuners and im going to have a wideband afr gauge in the car. car will be used for road racing. you say build another motor, im not building anything, im just turboing the stock b16b, i feel its an ideel candidate for boost due to its excellent rs ratio and free flowing head. are you guys that scared of compression? people turbocharge s2000 all the time and there compression is even higher.

regarding the spoon stroker kit: sure its safe but you cant rev as high safely as you could have with the b16b internals.

thanks for all the responses guys keep them comming :)

seen the vid rvm thanks it makes me even more excited, right now im getting everthing he treated: manifold, turbo exhaust housing, dp, wg neck, and dumptube. everything should be on and dynoed in a few weeks.

Nice! please take some videos!

Like you said, in the USA you have very good tuners, you will have and awesome setup! lucky you :D

well at the end of the day its your car/engine/money - if you wanna do it, im sure you will do it right and be happy.

Only im somewhat of a 'purist' i like to leave my reasonably rare b16b in its 'natural' state so to speak.

there not rare, just expensive. my motor is staying completely stock, im just cramming more air into it :) i'd love to stay NA the problem is it just cost too much to have 275bhp NA, i can do that with a turbo for a fraction of the cost of an NA build.

Could you please tell us what parts you will use? i'll love to know how to setup a turbo b16b, and of course to be reliable :)

cheers mate.

Thanks, good luck man, i know what you mean, i'm 25 :)

blinx9900:do you plan to replace any of the internals dude e.g the pistons(low comp, forged) and rods(forged) and bolts ,block brace,or sleeved block, turbo profile cams, etc ????? youll need to so you can run high boost,as ive thought about going turbo'd my self but i cant make my mind up between a full on N/A tune or full on turbo build ?????,turbo builds are sooooo expensive in the uk dude
