Been looking up videos before I do it and there seams to be a specific tool for this job, is it possible to do without it? Basically is there enough space in there to get some spanners on? Cheers Alex

I replaced mine a few years back, the old tie rod had no kind of hex or groves on it to be able to use a spanner to get it off like the new one did. Luckily my mole grips opened just about enough to grab hold of the main ball joint housing / bell, then it was just a case of unscrewing it from the steering rack.

If you are only doing one side it would definitely be worth inspecting the inner tie rod and track rod end on the other side for damage / excessive movement. It would be a waste to have your tracking done, only to need it doing again in a few weeks time should the other side develop a problem.
