For those who were interested in the Gear Sets but were not too sure on what sort of performance gains they would achieve, or were wanting to wait till the gears were tested and reviewed for performance and quality, you will be very pleased to hear the following results from the independent tests made on our Close Ratio Gear Sets. The results are via the UK's Leading Independent Honda Club & Magazine, and were subject to both Mettalurgic Analysis and Live Testing:

From the Magazine Review

Vehicle: B16 Civic
3rd Gear 40-70mph: 22.7% Improvement over stock
4th Gear 40-70mph: 23.3% Improvement over stock
5th Gear 40-70mph: 16.7% Improvement over stock
Average Improvement: 21% Improvement over stock on 3rd/4th/5th Gears
Tolerance: All within Honda Specifications
Quality: As Good/Similar to OEM Honda Gears
Results: Much smoother shifting between gears, much improved (and immediately noticeable) acceleration response
From the above, you can see that you would gain an average 21% Performance Gain throughout 3rd/4th/5th gears.

After installing our gears, you will experience a phenomenal increase in acceleration, albeit sacrificing top-end speed. Kit includes 3rd, 4th and 5th gear (perfect for keeping in the VTEC zone).

Specification:
3rd - 1.695
4th - 1.296 or 1.384 (Slight modification required to transmission casing)
5th - 1.000 or 1.130

Only $624.95 shipped for 3rd & 4th Gear, $749.95 shipped for 3rd, 4th and 1.000 5th (extra $50 for 1.130 5th)

This has got to be one of the best, if not the best, "bang for buck" modifications out there. There are not a lot of modifications out there that will give you 21% increase in performance for less than US$750.

We also have a B-Series 3.070 1st Gear available for those who require a slightly longer 1st, specifically designed for hard launches. As used by several top NHRA SFWD contenders, providing a consistent 0.2sec reduction in 60ft times and proven to withstand 750+ horsepower! Price: Only $249.95 shipped!

For those with D15/16 Motors, you are not left out. We also have a Close Ratio Gear Set for your box as well:

Like our Close Gears, the MFactory range of Final Drive Gears are Diamond Cut to exacting tolerances from fully Carburized Forged Nickel-Chromoly Steel and put through our own proprietary heat treatment process. Put simply, you will not find a stronger, more reliable product on the market.
By changing your final gear ratios, you can experience a dramatic increase in acceleration throughout the rev-range, giving you upto 15% increase in torque at any given speed over the OEM Final Drive.

We have two series available for Honda/Acura, depending on your application:

Street - Our most popular product, the Street Series are perfect for the "Everyday Driver", yet also suitable for the amateur track/drag enthusiast, being over 30% stronger than the OEM Final Drive.

Pro - Specifically for Competition-Use Only. As the name suggests, the Pro Series are for those who are more serious about their racing and will give you that advantage you need to win over the competition. Forged from Grade 1 quality steel and put through our own proprietary heat treatment process, the Pro Series are several times stronger than our Street Series range and are specifically designed to endure the demanding requirements of high-power track/drag cars.

omg, ive been meaning to add this info to the trans gearbox upgrade thread. you just made my job easy :)

So what do you reckon is the best combination for use on a gear box that will be used on track and street! What type of gears 12345? and what type of final drive?
ps:great info!

this was one of my planned upgrades for my EK9, the stock 3/4/5 gears drop below the VTEC zone, T1R has a more street friendly gear ratios for the 3/4/5 gears which is just a bit taller than the MFactory gear set.

much like sprockets for my sportbike, altering gear ratios is the best bang for the buck as far as modifications is concerned, Tsuchiya's TRD AE86 only has 165hp but is beating other AE86's with over 200hp b'coz of much refined gear ratios.

here is the selection of gear ratios by T1R;

3rd : 1.695 / 1.625
4th : 1.385 / 1.296
5th : 0.969 / 1.000

Hmmm it all depends on you, but I prefer a close gear ratio kit + 4.40 final drive for daily drive.

when you shift it at 8500rpm what rpm does it fall down to?

With the MF kit 3rd (1.695) & 4th (1.296) only drop 1k, they do 3 short 5th gears - 1.000 drops 2.5k (not short enough - I need to change mine), 1.130 drops 1.5k, and 1.210 not sure on the drop but a limited top speed of 105mph with this one (too short imo). I wouldnt bother with their longer 1st unless you are a quarter mile king as there really isnt much in it.

I have their 4.785 final drive in my ek9, and LOVE IT!! The car feels so much more aggressive now, and my fourth gear feels like my third gear.

Who says that drag racing has nothing in it? In my country all the Type r's are drag racers. We do not do circuit or autocross here because people love theirs cars tooooo much to have another car rearend them in a turn :(

If you are meaning my last comment, what I meant was:

Stock 1st is around 39mph and 5.5k rpm when you change into 2nd.
MF longer first takes you to around 41mph and 5.8k rpm when you change into 2nd. (Taken from an MF post).

With Close Ratio Gear Set + 4.05 Final Drive:
1st: 44mph
2nd: 67mph
3rd: 84mph
4th: 102mph
5th: 142mph

http://www.teammfactory.com/gearcal...nytype=&tranny=Calculate+Transmission+1+and+2

this setup seems the best to me by far, retains top speed but closens the ratios nicely, only thing is once you drop it on the gear calculator you will drop out of vtec on 1st to 2nd change as the shift point is too low, but in practice your always in 2nd anyway when circuit / street driving so not too much of a problem,,

edit,, car when stock still goes in vtec from 1st to 2nd and with this setup you come in slightly higher, now i`m really confused :-0

There is no difference in shift point from 1st/2nd between the oem and new setup, as you've only changed the Final Drive, which doesn't affect the gap between your 1st/2nd. If you stay in vtec with the oem setup, you will stay in vtec with the new setup.

If you are wanting to bring your 1st/2nd closer together, then you should change to our longer 3.070 1st gear :)
