Car wandering in road/tram lining

Hello,
I have a problem where the car seems to follow any imperfection or crack in the road.
It seems very loose steering under breaking also.
I drive on the motorway and i seems to have to keep correcting it as it catches on breaks in the road and the steeribg wheel twitches around.

My RTA bushes need replacing, but you can feel the front wheels twitch before the backs touch the uneven surface so I feel there is another issue.
I do have the bushes and will be doing them ASAP.

Any advice much appreciated..

When was the last time you had it fully aligned?

Is the car lowered? What wheels/tyres/sizes are fitted?

+1
get the alignment checked. Symptons sounds like what you get with a bit of negative camber and/or toe out on the front.

Re: Car wandering in road/tram lining

This happened with me when I swapped some T1-R tyres for some Potenzas with much stiffer sidewalls. I've not got round to sorting mine yet but I'm certain its in effect emphasized bump steer due the car sitting quite low so I've got some extended ball joints to see if that sorts it

Re: Car wandering in road/tram lining

Alignment was checked last week,
Set to zero toe at front and small amount of toe at rear.
Bang in centre of OEM spec and set on a hunter alignment machine by wheels in motion (quite well regards from what I've heard hence going there)

Car is on standard shocks and springs, camber is non adjustable but falls within the OEM spec. :/

It's really bugging me, just feels so all over the place!

Re: Car wandering in road/tram lining

I would've put the rear toe at zero and had a little toe out at the front. worn rear RTA bushes will give the loose feeling, but if your feeling your front loose the track rods could be worn and allowing play in the rack.

I just went with OEM specs.
So so many people on here have different opinions on alignment I figured I'd go standard and work from there.

I will get RTA bushes done and see if that makes any improvement.

Re: Car wandering in road/tram lining

Has the car had any front end damage in the past?

Have you checked out the rest of the bushes and ARB links?

RTA bushes are the only ones that visually look bad,
All the other I checked for play and inspected and all seemed okay but I will double check.

Also the car has never been in an accident 100%, all wings have been off and most parts while undersealing and no damage anywhere to indicate it has.
I tightened rack as tight as possible before causing binding (backed off about1/4 turn) and it still does it quite noticeably on dips in road.

Re: Car wandering in road/tram lining

Slowly getting worst here /:/

Could it be tie rod inner/outer?

Steering just has no feedback and car really wonders over camber in the road, it will pull quite harshly into/out of camber where lorries have worn down road.

If I let go of the wheel it's all over the place!

Really bugging me now, RTA bushes are both done and new OEM so they aren't effecting it. Also swapped rear drop links (were knocking) and ARB bushes.

Any advice appreciated, on the verge of just ordering new inner and outer tie rods to eliminate the possibility

Re: Car wandering in road/tram lining

Have you not had the steering joints checked already?

Any chance you could post up the alinment printout sheet. I use a Hunter alignment ramp daily.

Plus just noticed you haven't said What Civic is it? EG, EJ , EK?

It sounds like you have a castor ralated Issue, as in not enough. Has it ever had new top arms?? or lower arm rear control bushes?
