i'm starting rebuild my B16A2 motor...

i have seen (not from my motor but in internet images) that main bearings are colorated...how can i know the color of my bearings engine?

the color change from the date of build of my motor?

by the number of my motor?

how can i know before open the engine witch color of main bearings i must buy?

Thanks

Dario

you should pull apart the motor and make sure your ordering the right stuff.

Its hard to see but the letters are D,D,D,D,D. The crankshaft has the corresponding numbers and letters in order to find out what colors are needed. Here are the markings on the crankshaft:

The letters on the block in correspondance to the numbers on the crankshaft signify the color rod bearings that need to be used. Here is an illustration from a shop manual:

Hi
I have a set of brand new ACL Race main bearings sitting here if you are interested. If you also get the ACL Race big end bearings they are only one size so no messing with colours :nice:.
Cheers Dunx

and the color of the bearings rod where is written?

if i understand in the secondo pic i must use black main bearing on the left and green main bearing on the right?

i can't understand where i can read the number of the bearing rods...sorry....:-(

I have got a set of crank main bearings here. They do sell rod bearings, if you cant find a dealer over there i could order a set of rod bearings for you and send them to you all together.
Just check the site to see which set you need, i can then get you a price.

ACL Race Series Engine Bearings Application Guide

i thought it was better to use plastiguage to check clearences, and then figure out what bearings in needed, and is it true that acl isnt the best choice to use.

You use plastigauge to check clearances between the crank and rod bearing this would be after you have selected the correct bearing size, its just to ensure you have the right clearance when everything is bolted down

if you are dooing a rebuild, i recomend to use Honda bearings, my engine had 250k km.. and replaced everything with original Honda bearings. ofcourse measured everything with plastigage, to be shure..

usualy, the colors are seen on bearings, even with engine with great mileage.. you shoul check yours when putting engine appart...

at a honda dealership?

Is that option not available to you in Rome? Or is it just prohibitively expensive?

it's too expensive....

i don't know why here in italy the same thing is mucher expensive than the same in England or in USA
