arp head studs and nuts

At what point does a n/a b series need arp studs?
Or what is the limits of the standard new head bolts?
Iirc the dynamic compression ratio on my b18 set up around 11-1
Is there another company that make head bolts or head stud and nuts

Re: arp head studs and nuts

i reused a set of oem bolts atleast three times and i had to rebuild every 4K but i did also have some issues with a certain cam manufacturer so im not sure if the bolts were knackered and/or the cams. head bolts do stretch after use and on a high comp revy engine like a b18c this can be significant. try a set of arp's, they cost me about £150 from usa including customs charges etc.

i tried honda r couple weeks ago but they coudnt get them for some reason i think back order or something, if your engine has stock cams, pistons, manifolds etc then oem head bolts should suffice but mine is heavily built which is why i bought arp's.

Re: arp head studs and nuts

ARP and many other companies make head studs for Honda's, golden eagle, and a few other lesser knowns, it's more about how much power your making, how high your revving, how much ign timing your running etc... i don't honestly know what the limits are though sorry.

Re: arp head studs and nuts

I would have to wait 2weeks for the arps from hond R
Well depends on the actual reason I blew head gasket either due to the split water pipe or due to too high cylinder pressure resulting in the head bolts being stretched
Have the chap from the local machine shop coming to check the threads in the block and take head for measuring so guess will let you know soon,
