Description: Also known as a "Clutch Type" or "Salisbury Type" differential, the MFactory Metal Plate LSD puts the power-to-the-ground and maximises your vehicle's traction where conventional Torsen LSD's fail. Unlike a Torsen style LSD, when one wheel loses traction completely (e.g wheel lifts off the ground or axle failure), the 2nd wheel will still have drive and you will not be stranded in the heat of the moment. For general track use in a 200hp fwd Honda how long would you expect the plated LSD to last before it needs rebuilt?

How do you know when it needs rebuilt, is it just the plated that are replaced and is it a straight forward job?

We've seen cars go up to around 50,000kms before needing to change the plates.

They will wear to the point where the LSD no longer functions as well as it should (you will notice it). Both the plates and springs are normally replaced, and is a simple job to take apart the LSD to replace them.

Ok thanks, will the plated LSD need re-shimmed when fitted into a standard s80 gearbox and do you supply the correct shims?

Are you getting the Honda to the track this year Phill?
 
When installing any LSD, you will have to check the backlash and shim to the correct tolerance (as stated in the oem service manual).

The shims are oem parts that need to be purchased from Honda, and you won't know which size shim you need until you actually install the LSD due to the oem bellhousing being cast
