Rich777's B16 engine build
Hey guys,
I'm going to be putting together a 400whp+ B16 over the next few months. I have taken some pictures so far of where i am with it which i will be updating in the next couple of days. The spec's will be (i'll add if i've forgot anything): B16a Block B18c4 head (GSR) Darton Flanged Sleeves Mahle 9.5:1 81.25mm pistons Crower rods ARP head studs ATI street damper B16B Flywheel Comp stage 4 clutch Full bottom end balance (including pistons and rods) OEM bearings Brian crower valves Brian crower valve keepers Brian crower valve springs and steel retainer's Ferrea bronze valve guides Ferrea stem seals Silver Surfer turbo Go autoworks mini ram/screamer/3" downpipe 3" custom exhaust 3 angle valve job (with valve sping seated pressures checked) Blended valve guides Head & block skimmed (to ensure flat surface) Block lined honed if needed. At the moment i've just stripped and inspected the head and block and had them chemically cleaned (more pictures to follow). They are both in top condition and show no sign's of major wear or any damage. All bearings looked exactly how i'd expect them to look in a well looked after engine with no tell tail sign's of anything that would concern me. ![]() ![]() More to come.... I'll be honest, I'm a bit lost in the world of turbo's but looks like it will be epic when all together mate!
And fair play for doing this all yourself. Will make it even more rewarding when its done!

Re: Rich777's B16 engine build
I got given the head by someone when i tuned there car + from what i understand the GSR head is better for most Forced induction applications (info supplied from Endyn). Its most likely got something to do with the quench pads on the head. I'm know expert on cylinder heads but off the top of my head i can tell you that they act as a "heat sink" which helps transfer some of that unwanted heat into the coolant. Also they can help keep the engine away from detonation (when used correctly with the right piston to head clearance) i'm going to look a lot further into this though as i know if the piston to head clearance is to tight then it will kill top end power... and that what i'm after.
