It's not strictly the gasket that's to blame though. If the block wasn't step decked it wouldn't of been a issue... I'd rather not get the engine out again unless I have to. I can have the pistons machined down to achieve the required piston to head clearance and keep the block how it is (even though I didn't originally want to do this)

I'm feeling your pain mate, but think I've warped my block I hope not,
Could you not get a head gasket made to suite your stepped block?

Re: Rich777's B16 engine build

Cheers mate, it's no problem though, it honestly hasn't bothered me what so ever. These things happen when building engines like this. I've learnt a new lesson, found a way to deal with it, and have moved on. It's only a minor problem..

Where did you get that spring compressor or is it homemade?

Looks sooo easy to use, is it just me or do you think the b series heads are really deep?

Euroexports.com, if you look close enough then you can see it on the compressor. Yes I do think it's deep, it can be a pain at times..

Re: Rich777's B16 engine build

Cheers mate, I got the engine fired up again last night for round two. My engine management light is on for some dumb reason so I need to investigate that. After that, it's head gasket testing time haha.

Re: Rich777's B16 engine build

Yeah, I drilled apart 2 old OEM gaskets and used the middles out of them inside a new OEM gasket. I took the car for a drive last night and it seems to of worked well. The engine feels VERY strong. I'm soooooo glad it worked!!

P.S. I felt like I should of been on "Blue Peter" making this gasket haha.
