B pipe Question

Well lads just wondering about the box in the middle of the b pipe i have a 2.5 system and theres a box in the middle bit was told the car would be faster an louder if i cut this out an welded in a straight pipe to the back box what do ye think is it proven. Is that box just there to quieten the exhaust or is it there for a reason (better flow) whats yer opinion thanks

Its a silencer to quiten the noise and removing it will remove restriction but IMO an engine should have a system that has a little restriction to aid with back pressure
